hi all, I have a 1976 ford 1000 I bought about 3 weeks ago. was running fine then I noticed it was loosing power and did not want to rev up and sounded like it was missing. i limped it back to the shop i cracked the injectors and noticed I was getting alot of bubbles and wasnt shooting fuel outta the fitting like it should be.so i bled out the system and it seemed to run fine. took it back out to the field same thing after about 20 -30min of use. i have checked the tank and pulled the fuel shut off and check for obstruction and nothing. replaced filter. i think Im getting air into the fuel system somewhere. there is a rubber o ring type of seal where the fuel shut off/bowl mounts to the tank looks pretty worn and a seal on the bowl its self. not having any luck finding these to replace. I also replaced the fuel line. could the injector pump be going bad? update i checked the model number on the tractor it says A1012T and my searches say its a 1600? the hood on the tractor says 1000. i have an operators manual for a 1000. dont know if this means anything.

If you did not bleed the fuel system completely that could be your problem. Perhaps you missed a bleed point. Perhaps you bled in the wrong sequence. Perhaps you didn't allow fuel to flow long enough to eliminate bubbles. I've done all the above at one time or another. If that doesn't do it air is getting into the system somewhere. If your tractor was built in 1976, that was the last year for the 1000. It was followed by the 1600. You can get a bit more information at TractorData.com Ford 1 tractor information

Issues, especially fuel issues after 15-30 minutes or so screams fuel tank vent issues. Try opening the fuel cap after a bit of running. If you hear it suck air in or the tank make creaking inflating noises you found your problem. Need to replace the cap, clear out the vent hole or vent line or the like.

thanks for the reply. I did indeed bleed the system in the correct order "multiple times now" checked the cap, checked the tank, after about 30 min running starts to miss at higher rmp and smokes when it misses. I dunno what else it could be, the injector pump?

Check your ignition coil/coils, may be breaking down when warmed up. This was a common problem on Ford cars.

Hi,
You have done the basic prep work, but the important thing about Diesels is changing the fuel filter religiously on a regular basis. Mechanical injection pumps if treated properly are generally not a problem. I'm not sue of the Ford injector system, but there should be a maintenance protocol. Every Manf. has their own system, I am more familiar with Fairbanks ang GM . Smokes ( color white or black?) white is water in the fuel, black is rich and timing and injector condition needs a check. As it is a used unit you can't know the condition of the components.
In the Alaskan gold fields a Cat D-8 was run for nearly a year, 24 hours a day. What killed it the hydraulic cylinder that maintains the extension on the tracks, finally broke in half, and physical condition of other physical condition of other parts was poor. Check the 2020 price on a new D-8 or higher.

ok i think i got'er! i noticed the gasket for the fuel bowl was not installed correctly, the previous owner had the o ring gasket in the metal ring that holds the bowl in place and not around the lip of the bowl, but that wasnt all. i started thinking back that it didnt not start missing and etc untill that last gas i bought, let just say i will not be buying diesel from the little country store that has new owners. i flushed out all that fuel and and bought new fuel from a reputable store. just got done running her for about an hour and a half she 's running sweet again. thank you everyone for the help, it is very appreciated!

I changed my fuel filter and it ran out of diesel in the lines after ward, so i then bled them using the proper technique about 25 times and im still getting air or atleast oi think so, there is little bubbles that form around the injectior, i got it to idle and rev up but it revs very slow and has very little power, any advice will be greatly appreciated. also does anyone know what the piece next to the breather fill plug is on top of the pump, its like a long rod that goes down into the pump, ford 1600 with the shibaru 2cyl.
