i have just bought a J D 2030 been standing 5-6 years water entered engine through rotted exhaust need to remove head as engine is solid. still has original oil and anti freeze so not leaked below piston level.Would like to know if any pitfalls to watch out for when removingthe head .Engine type 4219 DL- 03 Thanks Rocherbob

It's odd that rainwater entered open muffler for 5 or 6 yrs but didn't seep past piston rings into crankcase. My guess is you'll end up having to R&R of pistons/liners. Does hyd oil have water in it due to cracked gear shift boots? If so I suggest to check/clean trans oil suction screen(key 30) when hyd oil is changed. Use only hyd oil that meets or exceeds spec's of J20C.

Hi Tx Jim thanks for reply, ractor has a weather tight Duncan cab no water in there, I don't know how long the muffler been rotted as had can on top when stood up. no discolouration of eng oil, bur when exhaust manifold removed 2 and 3 cylinders exhaust ports full of rusted muffler, so decided to remove head. Any advice would be good as it looks like I need to remove Rad, Oil cooler to get at fan bolts to be able to get at bolts holding water pump to head, is this the best way. Please Help Rocherbob

You're welcome. Removing radiator makes accessing water pump/fan bolts a lot easier. Before removing cyl head I suggest to remove injectors so the tips so you can protect the inj tips.
