I blew a hose and subsequently changed it. I used it for nearly two hours after the change but towards the end, the machine stopped going forward in forward. It would still push backward IN FORWARD!!! So fluid levels looked a bit low, I have topped them off. I have run the machine for a few hours, no go. Lifted the wheels off the ground and run for 20 minutes, no change. Any ideas? Can air have caused this and how do I remedy? If not, what's next? The hi pressure forward tubing inside the trans? Any help is appreciated...

you let air into the system when you replaced the hose

Keep your rpms in the working range 1500-2000
getting it out is fairly simple, start with the bucket and raise to the top and hole the lever in that location for a short minute, drop the bucket and keep the down press on for a short minute. Repeat this procedure 3-4 times
do the same with the backhoe keeping each cyl extended and retracted as with the bucket.

Your transmission if it still won't move, hold the pedal down forward and reverse much the same as with the bucket.

Everything by then should have started to improve, if better but still not right repeat the procedures.

If nothing got better time to talk with some who know's your machine

Thanks. I have read some about the hi pressure forward tube cracking and was hoping that was not it. I will give it a shot this morning.

I also don't feel the transition attempt to shift from reverse to forward like I used to either in the shifter.

Is the backhoe and bucket working better or no improvement?

I understand hydraulics however when it comes to hydrostatic transmissions I'm a dummy even though I have two of them.

If the transmission was working the way it should before you replaced the hose, It has to be air.

However I found this link that perhaps you have already seen?

THANK YOU for that link - I am reading it now. I haven't been outside yet as it is pouring and ice, but I am going to go and plug the warmer in (it starts in about half a crank when I do that) and check the oil level again. I know it was pretty low after the hose issue and my high state of common sense awareness did not guide me to check the level right away. Yes, a dipshit, I know... SO yesterday I got the level up, ran it and ran through some of what you suggested but did not do the number of iterations nor the hold at the top and bottom of each stroke. That I will try today.

BLACKLION 66 UPDATE: went out to backhoe, checked fluid levels again and it is low. no leaks anywhere that are observed. So I am thinking I am working the air out slowly with each running session. I ran to the store and added two more gallons. Will check the fluids again in two hours. BUT I did what you said with the hydraulics and all functions seemed to be getting smoother. I was EXCITED. However, the wheels are running backwards in reverse (GREAT!) and backwards in FORWARD(waaa waaa WAAAAA!). SO I am not sure if I did something permanent or I spit so much fluid and introduced so much air, I was lucky to complete the work i was doing. So I am duly humbled, I feel like a moron, and I am hoping not to have done damage to a perfectly good old backhoe. Your advice has made the machine better and I will continue this over the next few days/weekends until the levels equalize. Keep sending advice if you have more - I so appreciate it.

Most of my hydraulic problems I get comes from a sticky priority valve. Remove and polishing it always helps.

It's been a long cold dark winter and no improvement made on the backhoe. I ran it today for a couple hours with again, no improvement cycling through the hydraulics. It feels as though there might be air in there but that **** tranny just won't go forward.

Your problem seems to be very common.
One tractor that wouldn't move had a bad relief valve, another had some sort of safety valve with a broken lever, another with a pluged filter
You really need someone who understands hydraulics and hydrostatic transmissions to be there when you have the machine running. Very unlikely you caused any serious damage but anything is possible

sorry I can't help you more :confused3:
