- 1975 Ford 3000 Diesel
Ok so I have a ford 4400 that is incredibly hard to start the tractor has compression and the fuel pump and injectors have been rebuilt. The starter has also been replaced. Once it is running it is easily started. I think the injection pump timing might be off. when it is running it really rolls the coal. Black sooty smoke. It feels under powered. Is there only one way the the cav pumps fit on or is it possible to time that pump incorrectly my friend installed it while I was out of town and said it had a key way and three bolts and there is only one way for it to go. I think it is actually injecting the diesel after the compression stroke because the exhaust reeks of diesel and is oily as it turns over. I have used ether one time to start it and it seems to compress and fire the ether. and the exhaust smells of ether then diesel then ether then diesel when starting that way.
