Hello folks,
I have acquired a JD 110 1969 model. It was missing the secondary belt tensioner spring when I got it.
I ordered a new one through dealer and now I am hunting a hole to hook it to. I have the extension rod on the tensioner and it seems that there should be somewhere directly in line or directly in front of the extension to connect the spring to. The only place that I see that would make logical sense is a hole on the cross member directly to the right of the end of the steering gear. This location doesn't seem correct. It is actually left of center in relation to the extension.

Can anyone confirm?

You would think after 50 years that you would see a wear point/ gouge in the hole it hooked into. Can you post a pic?

That's what I was thinking. I looked for the usual paint missing and elongated holes, but no dice.
I don't have a very good pic because of the hole location.
I tried to capture what I thought would be the correct path or place to connect the spring in the first pic.
The last pic I tried to take a picture of the cross member and hole location.

Seth,

I don't know if this is the correct spring for the tensionser as it is not called out, but it looks like it is. This is from a JD 110/112 operators manual.

My recollection on a MTD machine with the same transmission is that the spring was under so much tension I used my ATV winch to stretch it.

Use a short piece of light chain and extend the chain through the back of the machine so you can easily adjust the tension until the transmission works the way it is intended as a variable speed drive. I one inch hole in the back plate wont affect the appearance too much!

Not enough tension and the transmission wont provide different speeds.
