I bought a 1968 4020 a year ago and it has a loader on it. The numbers on the tag are "1010". Is this the right loader for this tractor? I noticed under the green paint there was yellow paint, but I do know JD used this color as a primer back then. I have attached a couple pics for review. I am trying to decide if I should replace this loader with the correct one or if this is a correct one.

I have a 148 Loader on mine and it doesn't look near as beefy as that one. Why are you considering replacing it is it giving you issues?

I don't really remember there being a 1010 loader for that model deere. I do remember the 48 and 148 loader.

I will check it again but I swear it said 1010. Thought maybe it was industrial and modified to fit my tractor.

It does look like that vintage of industrial loader.

Ok correction. The model number is 710 and the serial number is 3269. Sorry for the confusion, the plate was hard to read.

The JD 710 loader was an industrial loader designed for a JD 1010 tractor. You can view a photo of it on JDparts.com pc # 700. If it has the original ind hyd valve(part # AU11781U) then it's open center instead of the required closed center valve. If you disconnect return line with oil flowing into hyd valve and oil flows out return hose then it's an open center valve.

If i am not mistaken, wasn't the 1010 the model before the 4020? The loader works fine, just looked like it was modified to fit the tractor. You talked about open and closed center valves, which is better? I have begun the restoration of this tractor and was a little stumped by the loader.
