I'm purchasing about 12 acres of pasture land & I have the opportunity to buy a 1966 4020 John Deere for $12,000. I was told it has 97 hp. The seller told me he replaced the injector pump, new clutches & had the heads fixed. It would also come with a 8 ft. Westondorf FEL & I believe an 8 ft Big Kutter box blade with 800 lbs of wheel weights. I am only planning on hobby farming at this point & know that this is probably more tractor than I need. There is an almost 1000 ft gravel drive that I will need to maintain & some light brush hog work, otherwise the rest of the acreage will be hayed. I have a ZTR mower for the house yard, & there is a good sized garden that we will need to till, but I know that tractor is too big. In the future we are looking into a few cattle, (less than 5) & some other small livestock. Would this tractor be a good investment? I have no experience with tractors but with everything I have looked into it sounds like a 30-50 HP tractor is more appropriate for my plans. Just don't want to miss a good purchase.
On a side note he also has a 2019 1025R with 250 hrs, with some attachments that he was willing to sell for $20,000. Thinking this may be a little small for our plans. I've been considering just buying a new compact tractor with the financing options, also. I'm looking for recommendations for tractor options for our anticipated use. Thanks!
