I bought a 1966 Farmall 140 last week with cultivators and side dress attachment with hopper.

I want to change all the fluids.

Engine: I plan to use Castrol 10w30. Is that o.k.???

Transmission: What do I need to use 80-90W gear oil or hydraulic fluid? The local Kubota dealer (also sells parts for International) recommended Kubota UDT (of course). I don't think that is right. Is there a filter somewhere???
Also, what is the transmission capacity???

Rear axles: What do I need to use??? Where do you pour in the oil for the drop downs?

I'm planning on getting a set of manuals, but want to change the fluids tomorrow.

I'm ordering new rear tires and want to paint the rims. What color of silver do I use on the rims???

Just to get started, I'd need to just look at it for the oil fills and drains but they are obvious.

When the tractor was built they only made straight weight oil and one of my favorite gas oils is the Case-IH fixed weight. Multi weight under hard use has broken down to the base weight.

I'd not be useing the UDT in other then the hydraulic system. The gear housings should be using the 80-90 weight.

All IH tractors use IH HD 30wt oil in the engine.
Any of the 30 wt hd diesel oil's are probably fine.
A better forum for farmall is redpowermagazine.com.
Many of the old farmall people hang-out there.

I found this oil at Messicks, but it's $4.50 a quart. My grandfather has a 1968 model 140 and he says that he's always used 10w30 in it. Also looking at Tractordata.com the test done at the tractor test facility in Nebraska shows using 10w30 oil.

The dealer that locally sells parts for International (he's a Kubota dealer) says to use a low ash oil, but couldn't recommend one.

O.K. I found the oil at a local Case dealer too.

Do I need to use Hytran (or equivilant) in the transmission or 80W gear oil. I've been told both.

My 1951 Farmall Super A uses 20W engine oil (32 to 80F) and 30W above 80F. Transmission, rear axle and steering use 90W gear oil.

I bought 5 quarts of the CASE IH 30 Low Ash oil yesterday along with a filter at my local dealer. I had never noticed him having it on the shelf, but he did.
