1965 Ford 3000 Diesel Injector pump timing

I have a ford 3000 Just had the engine rebuild by a reputable shop. I have notices since it returned from the shop it has a tremendous amount of white smoke when under load (A light Load ) I saw something on Youtube about adjusting the timing of the Injector pump. I noticed that the pump has slotted Holes where the mounting bolts attach.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this or recommendations about this is it true which way would you rotate the pump any advise would be helpful

Check and clean outside slotted hole and aline marks that is under the paint

A Ford is set at or very close to "0".. Theres a timing line on the inj. pump flange, prob. painted over 20x.. but its there..
Then theres degree marks on the block.. 10-0-10.. Set the pump to 0 & see how it runs.. a new /fresh engine IS GONNA SMOKE until u put a load on it for hours & seat the rings..
You'll be able to tell how "reputable" your builder was by how much paint is on the block.. can you see the degree marks?? or do you have to scrape off 17 layers of paint.?? Did you send them JUST the engine or the whole tractor?? IF it was the whole machine.. why didn't they notice the smoke..
WHERE is the timing at NOW, before you move it??

Thanks for the response. I did send the whole tractor. Not sure of the number of paint Layers. But I will check the mark. Thank you for the advise

Try not to make a mess of the paint.. don't use the TIP of a knife to scrape it.. get a flat razor blade & "shave" the paint away.. maybe use a "gasket scraper" w/ a razor blade tip??
Personally, I use "Gasket/paint remover" in a spray can.. a little squirt & the paint bubbles up & I wipe it away..

Just today I was on ebay and a guy is selling CDs for your computer with full OEM service manuals for different tractors. I was looking at Fords but he has manuals for many colors. Cost is 15-20 bucks for full spectrum, quality manuals....as he says, just follow the index to the section you want, print it and go to the shop.
