Hi. Recently found a 1964 John Deere 1010 parked in a pasture. Said nothing was wrong...just quit using it and walked away. Considering purchase. Anyone have an opinion or experience?

Provide some pictures if you can any anything else that you can learn about it. Does it run, does it have water in the oil, are the fluids in it or visible issues? Etc. A little more information will be most helpful to you and to those of us that can comment.

Another thought, take 50 pictures, take them home and find the best 10 that shows the tractor well and post those.

Myself, I'd be highly suspicious of the comment "nothing wrong, just quit using it and walked away". :)
I'd expect there is a good reason it is just "sitting in a pasture".
IMO
But may be a good deal depending on the asking price. Plan on it not running and some service work needed to get it running again.
And pics would be great. More about how long it has been sitting would be good info too.

More information. No problem. I have known the owner all my life. The owner told me he just didnt have a need for it anymore. Just left it sitting. Doesnt have a shed to park it under. He did say that he wanted to purchase a new manifold years ago, but the john deere dealership could no longer get parts. He said he would sell it to me, but he made sure I knew that parts are very hard to come by. As far as the condition of the tractor, doesnt look too bad. Would probably need reconditionig, motor rebuild. New paint, and tires. My deal is I know nothing about the ups and downs of a 1010, and was looking for some reviews from owners.

I don't know about the wheeled 1010 tractor, but I had a diesel 1010 crawler loader an d I didn't have any trouble getting most part's from my Deere dealer. ......Craig

the JD 1010 / 2010 are ok tractors , but there are other tractors of that vintage that are probably better . it would have to be cheep . maybe try to get it started before you buy it, if there truly was nothing wrong when it was parked.

1010/2010 tractors were the sorriest tractors that JD ever put their name on. Their brakes and hyd systems were poor at best. The diesel engines are hard to start, had glow plugs with pre-combustion chambers and smoked like a locomotive especially when cold. The piston liners are a unique design in that all 4 liners(gasoline & diesel) come attached to a deck plate.

Thats more of what I was looking for. I checked the motor oil. Its black...but full. I havent completely made up my mind but I may pass on the tractor. I may stop by and talk price with the owner and see what he says. The price is probably going to make or break this deal. It does have a nice 6 ft john deere bush hog hooked up to it. We will see. Thanks guys for all who posted helpfull information.
