1962 IH B414; need power steering piston

The piston broke on our power steering arm/cylinder. Do I need to replace the whole unit, or just the piston? Are these that specialized, or can i just get a cylinder?

We welded the old one and it worked for 2 months, but I just don't think it's meant to be on this thing.

don't know if it matters, but it's a 4 cylinder GAS engine, 2WD. Any suggestions on a good cheap place to buy these from?

well, my neighbor is trying to fix it. he thinks there's too much stress on the cylinder and that's what broke it, so now we have to re-configure.

got it fixed at a local machine shop. Bigger job than I thought to take it apart and put back together. It was the piston rod that broke. They made me a new rod, and cleaned up the cylinders, and replaced seals. there are 2 cylinders.

well Roy, now i don't know what to think or do. I put it back together and mounted it in place. Only seems like one way you can mount it. SO we drove back to the shop from the barn, and we were low or no fluid, so it steered hard, but steered. Then I filled the resevoir and it still wasn't getting full power assist, but my son drove it and it steered both ways. Within a couple of minutes, we could steer right, but left is just absolutely a no-go, stiff/solid.

It has a "valve" on the far end (near where the piston would bottom out), near the spot where the two hyraulic hoses hook up. It looks like a ball joint or tie rod and is greased. The rebuilder told me that it's actually a valve and when the metal arm that attaches to it pulls one way or the other to steer, it is a valve for the fluid..helps the cylinder do it's steering job for either direction.

So I'm wondering if there is some kind of issue going on with the valve, or the way the solid metal arm connected to the valve. Maybe I tightened it down too hard onto the tapered shaft (??)..I doubt that part, as i think the arm should bottom out on the taper. But maybe the valve isn't getting pushed into the proper position??

I removed the metal arm/link and shifted the valve back & forth manually...nothing. I also noticed one of my 2 bucket roller cylinders doesn't move at all. So I'm guessing (hoping??) I only have an air lock and I can bleed it out. Now I just have to figure out how to bleed hydraulics.
