Hello I am in need of some help with my fathers 1960 Massey Ferguson MF35 steering. It has power steering with the slave cylinder attached to the steering box. The problem is it will not steer to the left and there are popping sounds coming from the steering box. When we first got the tractor the steering needed a new rack guide and power rack which are what the sector gears ride against to make the tractor turn when you turn the wheel. when reassembling the steering box and following the books directions we noticed the sector gears had no alignment marks and that gears barley mesh together(unlike the pictures in the book where they mesh completely and have marks). After some time trying to figure out the alignment we got it together and it worked for about 30min then stopped turning left and started making the popping sounds. I have not opened it up again to see for sure what happened yet but was wondering if possibly the previous owners had put the wrong sector gears in it and that may have damaged something inside. We have been trying to find anyone with more knowledge about these tractors so far with no luck. If any kind soul out there can help us figure this out your help would be greatly appreciated!
