Hi all, I am looking at buying a 1959 MF 65 diesel. Through conversation with the owner, the 3 point lifts fine until you push the clutch in. Pushing the clutch in makes the 3 point drop. A few years ago I had a MF TO35, same issue and as I recall most were of the opinion that the hydraulic pump needed to be rebuilt/replaced. I sold the 35 after painting it and never fixed the 3 point issue. Does this sound like the pump is out on the 65? Other possibilities to explore? I am going next Saturday to pick it up and bring home and start the restore. This one is a keeper for me

The 65 has a two stage clutch which means that the three point wont raise till you let the clutch out about half way. If it drops when push in the clutch it does sound like the pump is holding it up. I would check the stack pipe seals and O-rings first. On the plus side its really easy to get to and will be way cheaper than rebuilding or replacing the pump.

More than likely its the seal on the piston for the lift cylinder, when that seal gets old, and worn it will let the 3 point drop when there is no hydraulic pressure being supplied to it. So I'd say the pump is still good since the 3 point will still raise, but you loose some lift capacity because of the leaking seal in the lift cylinder.
