1954 Ford NAA with Piston Pump

I just started working on my great-grandfathers 1954 Ford NAA that has been parked in barn for at least 5 years but no longer than 10. I am as green as you can be with tractors (first time on one was two weeks ago on this one) so please bear with me on the terminology. I replaced all fluids and the tractor is running well but the hydraulics are not working. It has a cylinder shaped piston pump on the right side of engine close to distributor with two lines coming off of it. I have attempted priming it using the air nozzle in the dipstick hole. While attempting that with the blank cover plug off, oil did come out but then went back down with no noticeable change. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Are you sure it is not pumping or is the lift just not working? ED

are you sure it has enough oil? NAA has 3 sumps, rear end, hyds, and transmission.

the pump head will have a plug on it too.

is the proofmeter showing engine rpm when running? if not pull the cable to the nose of the pump and see if the drive is turning.

post back. depending on if it is pumping or not, or if the lift merely is not working, there are a couple different ways to go.

I drained and filled all tanks according to what the book recommended. The dipstick in hyds shows full. I filled the rear end and transmission until it ran out of the side plugs (not sure what that is called). The cable coming out of the pump is cut in half. The hex head plug on top of pump has fluid coming out of it when running when I loosened it a few threads.

I'd be guessing your unloader valve is stuck, (open / unloaded ) and the pump is likely pumping.. and oil is just circulating to sump..

it's burried in the middle of the valve-in-cyl block bolted tot he underside of the hyd top cover, and will take a few tricks and home made tool/pullers to extricate.

you will want to have a service manual before you start, as you can ruin your backpressure valve just taking the top cover off if you don't read the manual first!

Ok, that sounds way above me. If I were to take it to a repair shop, how much should I expect to pay if the unloader valve is stuck? Don't want someone to rape me since I'm not very educated about tractor repair.

The naa is its own hyd deal, irs way different than 8n, and 'similar' to later models. Real trick may be finding someone who knows how to work on it.

A metal bracket with 4 holes, a bolt, and alot of washers can de used as a puller once you get to that point.

Ok so both my manuals came in today and this is how far I have gotten. I am not sure how or where to insert the bolt with washers that I have been reading about. See attached pictures and please give guidance. The piston in the large cylinder appears to be stuck.
