Farmall H
I noticed on my Farmall H that some rear castings have a 1939 date code, but the serial number on the tractor/engine is from 1946. Could this mean that the tractor was being built in 1939 when the war broke out, then it sat idle until 1946 when production resumed, and it was finished?
The tractor is all original (accept minor changes) so I don’t suspect that it was ever changed out.

I don't know what the explanation could be, but tractor production was not interrupted during the war like car production was. There were lots of H's produced every year from 1940 on. In fact, the only rare H would be a 1939 because the F-20 was still in production and the H was only introduced late in the year.

Makes sense that production didnt stop, because if it did it would reflect in the serial numbers. Maybe it was just an overstock of that casting and they were able to use them on later models?
