still have issues with my 1541. runs good but has a small leak on back of engine. would not recommend repair shop. but, that is another issue. found a nice 1864 for sale. advertised with 307 hours on meter, 48" deck, power steering. they are asking $1250 for it. is this a good tractor for the price? do not know what engine is in it, command? also, does anyone know if my snow blower will fit on the 1864? any input would be appreciated. may have more questions down the road.

The 1864 came with a Kohler CH-18 Command engine. The 1864 is NOT hard to get parts for. It's the top-end of Cub's non-super garden tractors of that era, and are one of the best ever made.

Heavy frames, heavy-duty Sustrand Hydro's, etc...

A Cub dealer can probably answer the question on your snow blower fitting.

an 1864 is a very nice tractor and thats a very good price if its in as good of shape as the hours would indicate. once you have power steering, youll never be without it.

went through my paperwork. found out that my snow blower attachment is a model 450. it has a 45" cut. do you think it will work on the 1864?

the pto pulleys are different sizes. you would have to 1: regear the gear box or 2: switch to the 451 blower. theyre the same blower, just have a different gear ratio. id line up a 451 first, then pull the trigger on the 1864. after that, sell the 450, you should come close to even on the 2 blowers.

Thanks highboy. looks like my 450 snowblower will not work on the 1864. Found a 1861 today. low hours, good price. Guess what, the blower will not work on that either. More or less have to be committed to the 1541. Shop picked it up again today. Still leaks oil and govenor at this point still does not operate as it should. Something has to be done. Getting to be close to snow season here in upstate New York. In the mean time I will keep looking.

anyone have an opinion on a '89 1872? has a 60" deck and 54" snow blower included. unknown hours at this time. $1995...only concerns i have is the magnum engine.

The 1872 is the super garden tractor and should have the Magnum 18 engine same as the 1864. The 60" deck is probably the Haban HD deck.

As far as hours if there is less than 6-700 then you are probably OK on that engine, but more than 1000 a rebuild is probably in the near (1-150 hr) future, unless it was very carefully maintained and oil changed etc..

I have an 89 1811 I bought new with the same Magnum 18 engine 660 hrs and it has served me well - uses about a half quart of oil in 15-20 hours then I change the oil before the winter. My only complaint was cold weather starting but now I have the Kubota for snow that is not an issue any more. The Cub gets to take the winters off and it prefers it that way!

That's a solid built tractor, ours has 700 hours on it and we've had for a couple hundred hours. Only problems ever had with it is a front seal and pto belts. You'll never want to give it up because of the power steering and how well it's built. As for attatchments it might say what fits it in your owner's manual.

it's beeen a while since i updated my situation. i kept the 1541. i had another shop pick it up. they totally rebuilt the m18s. replaced one piston and rings. did a valve job. checked govenor gear to see if it was replaced previously. rebuilt carb. had to replace flywheel due to other shop damaging it. list went on and on. it was either rebuild it or buy a new short block. must say, they did an outstanding job. has more power then it ever had. and, it doesn't leak oil. was expensive but i am truely satisfied. i believe i have a machine that will outlast me now. i can still use my snowblower and i had a local welding shop fabricate a lift rod so i can use my snow blade. i made my own bracket for the hydraulic lift. was not going to pay $100.00 for part number 719-3093. it is not the prettiest but it sure does move some dirt!! maybe when i get a chance, i'll post some pictures down the road after i put the blade back on. thanks for all the replies guys. this is the best forum!!
