MF 1754
My MF1754 has developed some kind of sensor and/or control unit issue. Most prominent is a false overheating event because a speaker somewhere shrieks periodically due to it. A stone cold engine does not even need to be started. The issue presents when turning the ignition to electrical. The temperature readout on the instrument cluster bounces from nothing to full and back every several seconds. Other items in the display disappear and appear with the cycle. I think I found where the temperature sender is. The single wire attached to it is in good condition and solidly attached.

The issue does not affect engine or tractor operation. I posted a 40 second video of it on YouTube. Help diagnosing what is going on would be welcome.

Your sensor might be shorting out.
Or you have an intermittent short on that one wire going to the sensor.

It seems a little strange that your DPF symbol (#8 in the below diagram) is also lighting up. Do you remember if that was typical when you turn your key to its first position? The sound you are hearing to me sounds like an alarm beeping sound trying to make you aware something is not right.

The bars which are all being lit up are also the bars used to indicate the degree which your Diesel Particulate Filter is plugged up. When you run your tractor if you cycle through the display how many bars are showing when you are in the DPF mode?

I am overdue replying to my thread. Life happened and I did not need my tractor. Getting back to the issue, it is not a coolant temp issue, it is a DPF issue. @thclimer was on to it. There are 7 bars when in soot display mode.

Once I figured that out I looked in the manual which said the dash indicator behavior was reporting that DPF regen needs to be manually run. Their instructions were to park the tractor, set engine to "low idle" whatever that means, and press the manual regen button.

Doing this does not initiate a regen. Or at least there is no change in indicator behavior even after several minutes. I tried at complete idle 900, 1500 and 2000 RPM.

So far there have been no error codes thrown and the tractor has not entered a "limp" mode. It still operates as expected aside from the dash indicator pattern. I ran a few chores as is to get the engine good and hot before trying manual regen. No difference. I guess it's dealer time. There are not many in Oregon. I got the tractor from a place 120 miles away. Not sure if there is anyone closer.

Not trying to be picky here, but did you have the tractor in neutral with the parking brake on?

Yep. It's dealer time. Forced regen is required.

I would be interested in knowing if ANYONE has had success forcing a regen on a 1700 series Massey.
I have tried it a couple times without success but I had not followed ALL the requirements listed above.
I believe the engine has to be at operating temp before attempting to force a regen?

All conditions must be true, and if like my LS you have to hold the button until starts 10+ seconds.

I have not tried a manual regen.

Thank you for that!! I probably held the button for 3-5 seconds, never for 10.
The tractor has about 450 hous on it and always regenned fine, until the last time, which was perhaps 30 hours or more ago. That time, the regen did not clear all the bars in the soot display, which it previously did. I thought (hoped) that the next regen would clear all the bars.
Now it seems that a regen should have happened already, since 4 (5?) bars have been showing for a while now.
Next time I get it up to temp, I will attempt a forced regen following all of the above parameters, including holding the button for a minimum of 10 seconds.
