Howdy,

Long time lurker first time poster. Been looking at the 25hp CUT痴 for some time now. Going to need a new tractor this year. I致e test drove the Kiot ck4010, Kubota 2501 and a MF 1739e. All nice units. Local dealer didn稚 know much about the 1726e and didn稚 have one in stock. Some of the data from Massey indicates it痴 turbocharged and others not. Wasn稚 sure if the sales guy knew what a turbo was. Anyone know for sure if it痴 got a turbo? Also people who致e used the 1726e how痴 the power? I know it痴 only 25hp but will it get some work done? I知 out west and a turbo might be nice to compensate for the high altitudes. Thanks for the help.

To the TBN forum Dash. Glad you joined.

25 hp diesel will do quite a lot of work.

Turbocharged diesel tractor engines are advised at altitudes above 6,000 feet.

I would not want the additional complexity involved with a turbocharger on a light tractor unless altitude was a critical consideration. (I would enter your altitude as part of your location.)

Shibaura diesel engines are well regarded on this site.

Collect a tractor brochure for every tractor you test.

Long time lurker first time poster. Been looking at 25hp CUTs for some time.

The best way to shop for tractors is to determine your tasks first, then determine how much bare tractor weight you need to SAFELY accomplish as many of your tasks as possible. Hillside work demands more tractor weight than flat land work. Bare tractor weight is a tractor specification easily found in sales brochures and web sites.

Heavier tractors have greater wheel spread making them more stable. Heavier tractors have larger wheels and tires better able to bridge holes and ruts without the tractor rolling over. Larger wheels and tires provide a much smoother ride over rough ground. Heavier tractors have greater inertia to resist rollovers when moving heavy loads in the FEL, the most hazardous of routine tractor tasks, especially hazardous on sloped land.

For most tasks greater tractor chassis weight is far more important than tractor horsepower. This wisdom is difficult for people new to tractors to comprehend.

Shop your weight range within tractor brands. Budget will eliminate some choices.

Tractors under 3,000 pounds bare weight are offered in one basic configuration. Tractors over 3,000 pounds bare weight are generally offered in a utilitarian configuration and a deluxe configuration, on a common chassis. Deluxe kit enhances productivity and operating comfort ~~~ but you have to pay.

I like to spreadsheet tractor and implement specs, often a revealing exercise. I have a column for cost per pound.

It takes a 50% increase in tractor weight before you notice a significant tractor capability increase. It takes a 100% increase in tractor weight to elicit MY-OH-MY!

Selling a used tractor is easy. Selling multiple light implements in order to buy heavier, wider, implements for a heavier tractor is a pain and often a big hit in depreciation. ((Ask me how I know.)) Many who buy too light tractors buy too light implements.

A quality dealer, reasonably close, is a priority for me; less so for others, well experienced in tractors, who do their own maintenance. For most new to tractors a quality dealer, reasonably close, available for coaching, is essential. My kubota dealer is six miles away.

Horsepower is a primary consideration only operating PTO powered implements.
A 25-horsepower tractor can operate most PTO powered implements 60" wide in average, not challenging, conditions.

((In Colorado I speculate operating Rotary Cutters and Snow Blowers would be the key horsepower challenges.))

BUY ENOUGH TRACTOR.

My place is right at 5,000' but my brothers got a cabin on some land above 9,000' that we will use it on quite a bit. We are also looking at land near by for a Moutan cabin as well. I've got about 3 acres at my place that will get bush hogged so not a great deal of PTO work so a 25hp should be fine. As for ground engagement work and loader work 25hp should be fine. Maybe a pto snowblower at some point but I've been getting by with the atv plow and 8hp Ariens snowblower just fine in the snow removal department. The loader will help with snow removal as well. Anyways if the 1726e has a turbo that is a big advantage compared to the other 25hp units at my altitudes.

The massey PDF brochure on the e series indicates the 1726e is not turboed so just trying to figure out the real story.

Thanks for the responses.

I壇 want a 3 point blower.

You haven't indicated if you have hills, slopes, and sidehills. If you have flatland, your decisions are much easier Imo. Also if ground clearance is an issue for working in woods or very rough ground makes a difference in product choices.

A 25 or "26" HP Diesel has much simpler issues regarding being a tier 4 process, than does a 27 HP or larger.

One other quick thought. Have you looked into the 1500 series of Massey product. ? At one point I thought they had been discontinued but then we've seen that apparently Massey has continued that series as well.

This tractor's engine is not turbocharged. I have lots of seat time on these newer Massey units. It's an error in the literature.
