I have a 1710 w/ a front loader. I keep developing a hydralic leak from the o-ring slip joint that goes into the bottom of the power steering pump. I have replaced the o ring three times and everything operates great for about 15 minutes. After I start using the loader it blowns the seal. There was a service bulletin for this with an upgrade (which I made) to eliminate a two o-ring setup and replaced them with one. Made no difference. Since the bottom valve bolts to the frame and the power steering pump bolts to the engine block, could this flexing between the two components be the problem?? Has anyone had a similar problem or haer of this before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure how you are getting the o-ring on the shaft, but if it gets nicked during installation, it will leak. Can you put some tape over the end of the shaft, then roll the o-ring into place? May not be your problem, but may be an easy fix.

It seem that you are building to much pressure and blowing out the weakest seal. Is this a problem you had for a while or did it just start. When it blows the oring what position is the TPH in . If it is in the up position it might be the pressure releif.

I'll give that I try. The last one was put on by the NH parts guy but he just rolled it over the end like I did. I will give the tape idea a try. One thing I failed to mention was the nipple portion of the adapter that the o-ring goes over has wear marks like those caused by metal to metal wear. I have a new adapter ordered. The NH dealer said it's because of the flex between the engine mounting point and the frame point as previously discribed. My feeling is that if the flexing issue was the case then this leak problem should have always been an issue. Hopefully, the combination of the tape trick and the new pieces will solve this. I'll keep you posted. Thank you so much for the help!!

Please forgive my ignorance but what is the TPH? I just got this thing and I'm getting a crash course in tractor repair. If it is building to much pressure, what steps do I then need to take??

Having same problem.

Did you ever find a solution?

Think I have fixed it now.

12 bolts that hold front frame to engine were getting loose causing movement between hydraulic steering pump and diverter valve.

- Took bolts out and found worn threads and sloppy holes.
- cut end off a tap to make a bottom tap.
- Tapped out holes as deep as possible
- Found longest bolts that would fit (careful - there are two bolts shorter than the rest)
- Breakleen spray to clean out holes
- Locktite (Red) on deep end of bolts
- JB weld around end nearest bolt heads to make up for sloppy frame holes.
- Tighten bolts
- Let sit for 12 hrs
- Replace o-ring
No more blown o-rings
