1700 starter solenoid

I think I read somewhere that the alternator on the 1700 is the same as the alternator on a 76 Nissan pickup. Any chance the starter is not a "tractor only" item? The $399(and up) asking price on e-bay seems very high. Luckily it's just the solenoid (this time), but even $69 for a solenoid seems too high. Hoping the starter might also cross to a common vehicle that a local auto-parts store might carry.

I have had good luck having starters and alternaters rebuilt, the guy i use gets $80. Usually when I get them back they look new.

The alternator is only 20 amp and has an external VR. It would take some rewiring to put in a more common model.
Did you price a rebuilt if no re-builder available?
