The right brake is in the up position and will move only a 1/2 inch or so when depressed. brake appears to be almost locked up, even though the petal is in the up position. Also the brake grabs when backing up.

As for the left break, it has 3 to 4 inch travel and works fine.

I am not familiar with how braking works, and it looks like I would have get into the rear housing to get to it?

biggest question is, why is it nearly locked up when, petal is in the up position.

Anything you can tell me , greatly appreciated.

Not being familiar with that model , & only having the small 1300 D . It sounds more like a bent linkage Or to tight of an adjustment to me . But Yours might be Quite different. Any pics ? . Bob

Been There Done That.

The shaft is rusty and frozen up where it passes through the brake housing cover.

Take off the brake housing cover and free up the shaft where it passes through. You can't lube it from outside because there is an o-ring on the shaft that keeps water out of the housing.

I didn't need to remove the wheel, I just rotated the fender back to make some space. Under an hour for the total project.

Thanks to Hoyte tractor website I found a diagram , so now I feel better about opening it up.

Yanmar Tractor Parts: BRAKES

It apears that brake shoes are avilable.

Thanks California, I am going to get that fender out of the way and take a look

I should have referred you to that Hoye diagram.

They almost never need shoes. There is an anchor pin that is offset so you can adjust for wear by turning the anchor a quarter turn. (half turn? I have forgotten). And you can swap the leading/trailing shoe.

On mine there wasn't enough wear even after 25 years to allow turning that anchor.

Good luck with it!
