From an earlier post of mine:

"The YM1610D and the YM1720D, both seem to be fairly popular models. Both are 3cyl with powershift. The 1610 has 20hp and weighs 1609#. The 1720 has 21hp and weighs 2072#.

The 1720D is $500 more than the 1610D.

I am planning to use this machine mostly for road maintenance with a box and scrape. We live in the woods so I have no plans to ever use a bushog. I may want to add a loader someday.

Do you think the 1 extra horsepower and the 400 extra pounds of the 1720 are worth the extra $500, or should I be fine with the 1610D?"

I got the above information on these tractors from the model specifications list that I have found both on this forum, and on the Yanmar_Tractors group on Yahoo.

If this is correct, and the 1720D and 1610D are the same size in dimesion; where on Earth does the extra 400# come from. The dealer with the 1610D tells me that he thinks they are actually close to the same weight.

Are these horsepower figures correct, or are they actually 17hp (1729D) and 16hp (1610D)?

I welcome your comments to help me clear this up. I am seriously thinking about buying one or the other this week. Right now, I'm leaning toward the 1610D.

Sorry for the long post, but I would really like to be clear on this.

Jeff

PS. The 1720D has wet brakes, and the 1610D does not. Any pros or cons?

I have to use my scraper blade to do a hill. And I wish I had more weight, as the rice tires spin real easily. Mine only weighs 1600 lbs. Wish it weighed more, so it would pull better without spinning. Mine is a YM1700 the hP they tell you, for them is the PTO hp. the hp is generally about 3 hp more.

The grey market tractors are listed by PTO hp. The engine hp is 20% more--so on 1610 it is 16 + 3.2= 19.2 Bhp at the engine. A 17XX would have 17 + 3.4= 20.4 BHP.

For what its worth, my YM1720D parts manual lists weight at 780kg. I don't have a parts manual for the YM1610D, but I do have another document listing all of the Japanese tractors made between 1975 and 1990. This document lists the YM1720D at 940kg, and the YM1610D at 730kg.
