My Massey 253 2wd has its original rear turf tires and I want to take it to the farm so I need AG tires to fit 16.9-24 rims. Is this an available tire size?

My old dealer told me I would need new rims and tires for $2400 and then last week I spoke to a new dealer who said he thought 16.9-24 AG tires are available and would go onto my old rims.

I’m a tad confused so asking you all. -thanks.

16.9-24 R1 tires exist and should be available in several ply ratings and brands. You will not need new rims unless your old ones are unuseable.

Unless those rims are too wide for the AG tire to seat properly....or too wide for the face/width of the tire that will be on the ground.

How wide are your rims?

It looks like the 16.9-24 R1 tire will only be 1" taller than the 13.6-28 R1 original equipment tires.

I’ll look at the steel rims this coming Wednesday and see if there’s any size info stamped on them, specifically the width and if not then I’ll use a tape measure.

These are the original turf tires/wheels that came on this tractor when new in 1989, although online specs say 13.6-28 was the factory AG tire size.

A 16.9 tire is just that. Tread style makes no difference.
A 14 or 15 inch rim is specified by the tire industry depending on who wrote the spec. Ford sold thousands of utility tractors with 16.9 x 24 R-1 tires on 12 inch rims, they work fine.
This is not the space shuttle, it is a 2 wheel drive tractor.

Your old dealer is looking at the tractor spec sheet and reading that it was offered with the OEM R-1 tire size, 13.6x28.
You asked for availability of a 16.9x24 R-1 style tire to fit your existing rims. They are commonly available.

It is a 2 wheel drive tractor so it all boils down to what you WANT on your tractor. No more, no less.

Agreed, but many times turf and turf style tires, are put on wider rims than AG tires and that was my point...
