I am coming up on my 50 hour service on a Farmtrac 30 HP tractor which calls for a 15W45 oil. I want to go with synthetic oil. I was planning on using Amsoil but locally I can find it only in one gallon containers, of course I need 5 quarts. I do not want to purchase 8 quarts when I will only use 5. Mobil 1 is readily available in a 15W50 but not in a 15W45. What other synthetic oils in a 15W45 can I look for?

Yep, after using them all, Mobil, Delvac, Royal Purple, Shell, and being a dealer for Amsoil, my current favorite is the Redline 15-40. Makes everything I put it in run cooler and smoother.

I recently changed my tranny fluid in my Motor home to redline tranny against dealer recommendation, and it was amazing what a fluid change can do.

Mobil 1 Turbo diesel truck 5W-40 and Rotella T synthetic 5W-40 are available at most Walmarts.

15W-45 may be common in India but it isn't in this country.

There is no such monster as 15W/45, the 45 part being the no such thing. I think you will find it is 15W/40. SAE viscosity's go straight from 40 to 50, nothing in between.

That's certainly true here and probably worldwide. I've seen a couple references to 15W-45 lately though, mostly information from manuals out of the 3rd world. It got me to wondering what was actually available elsewhere in the world.

They tend to use much thicker oils than we do too, probably because of the quality ( or lack thereof ) of what's available to them locally...

I'm not positive but I can't say I have seen anything like a 45 weight anywhere. Most countries follow standard industry viscosity measurements. That's not saying there's not some little ant hill somewhere in the world that has it. :)

If you can get Mobil 1 in 5w40, you can mix it with 15w50 and get 10w45. I recently changed the oil in my Benz diesel and mixed 5w30 50/50 with 15w50 to get its 10w40. It doesn't matter what the initial number is, as long as it is same or lower, e.g. 0w45 is better still than 15w45 if it is synthetic. If dino, there'd be a lot of additives to get this wide a vis band, and it'll break down.

I'd think that a good 5w40 ought to be fine for your tractor. I use 5w30 Mobil 1 in my 4010.

There's no reason to mix those oils to get some odd and non-standard weight. The Mobil 1 5W-40 and 15W-50 are completely different chemistries. The mix is not likely to perform better than either one used by itself.

Your 5W-30 and 15W-50 are similar though and your mix might well end up working pretty well and give you the weight you want. All the "passenger car" Mobil 1 oils seem to be quite similar. The exception being the 0W-XX grades.

It's good to keep in mind also that any mix is likely to end up slightly thicker, especially at the lower end, than the arithmetic average of the oils...

I would have to agree completely. Just because you are mixing a 40 and 50 weight together doesn't mean you will end up with something that would be a (nonexistent) 45W fluid. You would have to plug in the cSt viscosity and mix ratio into a viscosity calculator to figure out what you would end up with. The 40 weight could be on the light side and the 50 on the heavy side.
