In order to keep my tractor running I have to bounce around the seat to keep the kill switch engaged. I looked under the seat and see how it somehow attaches to the seat cushion. I reached my hand in it and could not really tell what I was feeling. :p Does anyone have any practice on how to check it?
I unplugged the line and replugged it, and it has seemed to work without a problem, but I want to be prepared. Just how does the end of the wire attach to the seat and how do I replace.
I really like this tractor!

As a 1533 owner I can't help ya with tech. or service, but I do know that I eventually unhooked mine due to the fact that I sometimes lift off the seat to see the very edge of the bucket or side of the rear wheel to clear an object, and the sudden shut down then restart when I sat back down quick seemed hard on the machine. I know its a safety thing but I can't feed the chipper from the drivers seat either ! I did put a lanyard onto the jumper which is plugged into the wire now, it serves as a kill switch when chipping.
Good luck to ya. Could it be an issue of just not enough body weight?

I also had to jumper out the switch. I didn't really feel like sitting on the seat for 6 days to run the PTO generator during the freak snow storm we got last October!! :D

The seat kill switch is a great safety tool, but it does need to be bypassed sometimes. What I did with my JD2305 was wire a toggle switch into the seat/kill wire. In one position the toggle makes the tractor operate as normal and shut down when weight has left the seat. In the other, I can stand up to see the bucket edge and can run the chipper from the rear. Like BOGI, I can reach over while chipping and shut the tractor off instantly by moving the toggle to the 'normal operation' position, if needed. This has been one of the handiest upgrades that I made to the tractor. I can't take credit for the idea, however. It was gleaned from several other posts on the topic from TBN. Try a search and there will be no shortage of reading on the subject!!!

Good luck.

There is a seat switch kit avaialble for when your seat switch does not work when the temperature is below freezing. The safest thing to do is place something heavy (bag of feed) on the seat when you need to run the PTO instead of by passing the seat switch.

Or you could add a switch SPDT across the kill switch and turn it off when you need to stand up for whatever reason. Sit back down and flip the switch. You would still have your safety in place but you could manually bypass it if needed. -robert

How does that cold weather switch work?

Its a proximity switch mounted outside of the seat. Circuit is closed when the 2 halves of the switch get close enough too each other. Completely takes moisture out of the picture as there is nothing to freeze up. It replaces the current switch located inside the seat cushion. There is a kit for the GC2300 too, it is basically the same switch used o nthe 1600 series - it has a switch arm and is also located outside off of the seat.
