Hi guys,
My tractor had a 6 month warrenty when I bought it. I have been trying to use it as much as possible for these months so that if something is going to break it will. Not abusing it mind you and not working the tractor commercially.
Any way shortly after I got the tractor home it started leaking oil from the front knuckles. I contacted the dealer and he said that he would send me the parts when I knew what I needed. It was not from the big seal between the knuckle halves, but rather the little seal that is in the "Nut" cap that is at the top of the knuckle (#14, 15). I finally took the time to tear it down today and found the center pins (#1), top needle bearings (#), and top seal in pretty bad shape. That is all well and good and the dealer will send me the parts. (I do not mean to imply that Hoye was the dealer--the picture of the parts manual is for reference only. I bought manuals from Hoye, but not the tractor. The tractor I bought in Germany.)
My question is this: That small seal in the "nut" was installed, to my way of thinking, backwards. It was installed with the open side (with the little spring) towards the top--that is toward the exterior. I have see a few seals placed in this manner, but only when used as a wiper seal like on a hyd cylinder shaft. The open side should go toward the oil source. Am I wrong and this installation was correct? That the closed side of the seal should be toward the oil source? See attached pic. The "nut" on the left still has the seal. The seal came from the right "nut" and both are facing up as they were installed.
Dzieki,
Mike
