Is the 1430 Engine a 2 cylinder air-cooled diesel?

Is this engine pretty noisy and vibrate quite a bit - in comparison to say a similar sized Kubota 3 cylinder diesel engine?

Has Power Trac provided a glow plug option or cold weather starting aid yet?

Thanks

The Deutz engine used on the 1430 is two cylinder oil cooled. There is an integral oil cooler on the engine and a fan for forced airflow across the oil cooler. This arrangement is sometime confused for air cooled.

Most people who have tried both the 1430 and an 1845, which has a 3 cylinder Deutz engine, consider the 1430 to be somewhat rougher and noiser than the 3 cylinder engine.

Deutz does not offer a glow plug option so far as I know. While I do not have personal experience starting the engine at low temperatures there have been reports of successful starting of the stock engin down to about 10 degrees F.

Wasn't there some discussion of a pre-heater that went in the air intake somewhere a few months ago?

There was mention of a Deutz intake air heater, and some discussion of various other cold weather diesel add-ons. I have had no trouble starting my 1845 at 10 degrees, with no heating whatsoever, and that has included cranking the pumps with the original motor oil in the hydraulic system. If I ever have a problem, I'll most likely go back inside and thank the PT for saving me from the foolishness of being out in that weather. In an emergency, I'll blow a hair dryer in the intake air, and maybe a whiff of ether to the outside of the air filter. I want to avoid the latter, however, since I was a party once to a bent rod in a 4-71 boat engine. (Totally different system, I know, and overload of ether, but some lessons have wider impact than others. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif)

I have the 1430 and have had no problems starting it as low as 16 degrees F. It always starts the first time. I can't compare the noise with other diesel engines; however, it is loud. To me, the vibration is not excessive.

So if I popped a paper bag behind you while you were ethering your engine, you'd probably not be happy??? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

That probably wouldn't faze me. But if you tapped on the other side of the engine block with about a 2 lb. beater, I'd probably use your name and cuss words in the same sentence.
