WOW!! , I am not sure if I sure post this in the safety forum or here since its trailer related. A 13 year old boy drives over 1300 miles towing 2 horses with a pickup to a rodeo!! While, I have no doubts a farm boy would be more capable of doing things like this on a farm compared to a city slicker, whats is amazing is that a 13 year old towed 1300 miles with a possible 3-4 tons behind him, maybe more. full story here - Boy, 13, drives 1,300 miles to Texas - Life- msnbc.com

 While I have admiration for him to drive that far alone towing at age 13, its a wonder no one has gotten hurt and hope he doesnt do something like that again .

The next time he does it, he will be old enough and have experience also.

Not the same thing but my dad used to have me back in the truck and trailer and pull the boat out of the lake. He trusted no one with the boat and teaching my mom to back up a truck and trailer was not going to happen. I was about 13 or 14 when this was going on. Actually took my drivers test on a Friday afternoon on the way to the lake with a boat in tow behind a 4x4 198_ Ford Ranger. Dropped the boat to do the test in the BMV's parking lot. The examiner was impressed that I had been towing while learning to drive. Guess it was my dads version of a designated driver. Boy, how times have changed. I made sure to take the bar and hitch out of the hitch, did not want to get hung up on a bumper of a car if I messed it up doing the parallel parking.

Hey,
Didn't Farmboy12 on this site just turn 13. Anyone hear from him?

Was he the one who got caught in a web of lies posting trucks were his and his families when the real owner stepped in and said they were not?

If my memory serves me correctly, I think the member you are referring to is CATMAN, formerly 3500 diesel.

You are right. I remember Farmboy now, he is the one who does all the research and question asking for the families purchases. Hope it was not him, but if anyone could have done that it may have been him. He seemed pretty smart!

No no, Farmboy12 is an actual legitimate person as far as I know. His profile says he lives in a town about 20 miles north of me and he has mentioned different specific places and people that work at the different tractor dealerships around here. I have full confidence that Farmboy is safe.

CATMAN & 3500DIESEL though, they are the same person and he's nothing but a liar. CATMAN got chased away on that screen name in the JD forums for conflicting stories of purchasing tractors. After that he hasn't been seen online since. Then this guy by the name of 3500DIESEL showed up showing off pics of "his" new trucks and talking about all kinds of different models and hot rodding a Cummins and such. He hasn't been on in a while now either but if he comes back he can read the rest of his thread to figure out he isn't welcome anymore as well. If you compare CATMAN's and 3500DIESEL's threads you can easily tell it's the same person.

CATMAN did the same thing in the truck/trailer forums on Lawnsite.com as well.

My next door neighbor has had a California Driver's license since he was 12 years old.

He was the oldest of 6 children and his family had a modest ranch. His mother never learned to drive and his father's eyesight was not good enough to pass the visual.

CA has or had an exception for necessity.

Delivering livestock, picking up supplies or delivering goods to market was the basis someone in the family needed a driver's license.

When he was 18 he got a job for Union Oil company driving a gasoline/diesel tanker. His younger brother was now driving for the family farm.

I would think the biggest obstacle today would be finding an insurance company that would write a 12 year old a policy.
