Hey Gang,

I have new to me, older 12V 15amp pump on a 300 gallon tank. To refuel my LS XR4150 I pop the hood, connect jumper style clamps from my pump to the tractors battery. Mechanics I can do ok but electrical Im pretty dumb.My LS does not have a power port but it DOES have a 7 pole trailer connection. couldn't I just wire up a 7 pin (ground and 1 positive that reads over 15 amps) and use it as a power plug?

Yes that will get you power and ground. Here is a good wiring schematic of the different connectors. Trailer Wiring Diagrams | etrailer.com

That being said - 15a is a reasonable draw, check your fuse size before going this route to ensure the wiring/fusing is adequate. What i did for my 12v/15a transfer pump is installed a fused SAE 2 pin connector on the tractor and the replaced the jumper clamps with SAE connector on my pump with
a longer cable. That gives me plenty of reach from the pump to the tractor and it is on it's own fused circuit

I did that with my 12V tank. Wired an external connector so I could just plug it in...

But after doing it for a while, I decided to make my life easy. I bought a deep cycle battery, charged it up, and put it in a plastic battery box and just sat it on the ground behind the tank. I connected it to my pump wiring with the same type of connector which is on my tractor. It is WELL worth it. I put the battery out there Spring 2017 and haven't had to charge it yet. It makes my life easier in something I do often.

There was nothing wrong with popping the hood and hooking up the connector. But my connectors were pretty tight, so I did have to wrangle it a bit each time. But, the cost of the battery and a little wiring makes it no more difficult that simply flipping the pump on. I wish I had done it rather than all the tractor wiring. It wasn't hard... but this is so much easier.

We have been using the alligator clips on the pumps for years, all our tractors had a hot post on the starters straight from the battery, no need to open the hoods or gain access to the battery. Then hook the ground to a frame bolt.
