1210 rattle in tranny diagnosed as shield coming loose

After eliminating the possibility of other problems, a traveling Ford New Holland mechanic friend of a friend stopped by and pretty sure the sound is a lightweight shield used to deflect oil in the tranny coming loose. I am having problems getting it to a dealer two counties over, and wondered if this was an easy enough problem for average tractor mechanic to resolve.

The noise is only when the hydrostat is engaged in forward or backward motion, no metal in the last two hydraulic oil changes I've done back to back. Mechanic said that would be typical for a shield making noise, and that it wouldn't deposit metal where it could drain out.

He also said the thing might drop down and never be a problem again, or it could really do some damage depending where it dropped.

Anybody familiar with this and what fixing it entails?

I'll post something if I get the answer. I talked to a mechanic today who said he'd put his ear on it. That will be a start. So far all attempts at a house call have fallen through...hope this one is for real.
