Watching the national news this AM, they were all over the heat in Texas, 97 & 98. Right behind the lady was Phoenix AZ at 111, not a word.

I'm 25 miles west of Tucson and usually hotter than what it shows in town. 3 Different temp guage's, 113, 111, & 106, all in the shade, pretty good breeze on the 1 at 106. But not to worry it will warm up in August. :D

About 80 days since any rain. In town they are about 17" behind. Last winter & spring it rained to the east and to the west. Here in the middle almost nothing.

Where is good old "Al Gore" when you need him. I bet he is keeping all the cold and rain for himself. Last I heard, if he gets one more home, he will have to build his own coal fired power plant.

Yeah, I wish the climatologists were wrong, but every year it's looking less likely. Maybe it would help if you got rid of one of the gauges? :)

Well, I wish you some rain. Seems like a lot the area across the southwest has had a warm and dry Spring this year.

We tied the record yesterday in Portland, ME for the coldest high temp for the date - 56* and that was shortly after midnight, the rest of the day was actually cooler. I'm glad I didn't plant much garden this year.

Yes I to live in Maine and saw my first twister last year. It tore up my back yard ruined all my outdoor equip. And furniture. Already this year we've beatin the record for tornados and high winds and the season just began! I fear for my daughter when she's my age

We were 17 inches short of rain and got that 1.5 inches a couple days ago. That was wonderful but sure isn't going to do much but make some grass green for a bit. We are in a world of hurt here in Texas.

Maybe looking at this will cool you off:

10 Day Weather Forecast for Farmington - weather.com

It has been gloomy with occasional misty-rain for the past three days, we are really a bit behind on the rain though. Misty drizzle doesn't add up to much and before it came, the woods were getting very crunchy.

The weatherman on the local news showed a map of rainfall and lake levels for area lakes. The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and the several-county wide area northeast of the metroplex is actually about even for rain this season. Many of the lakes are actually at normal levels. However, south, southeast, and west, we are in extreme drought. I'm lucky to be in light drought conditions instead of the extreme. I've lived long enough in this area to see long periods of dry and wet weather. The only thing I'm convinced of is that it is very miserable when we are in drought. I'm ready for it to change. . . right after I get the new ponds built.;)

I think the reason you hear about 97/98 as being so bad in Texas is a combination of heat/humidity causing a misery index of heat. Probably just as big is the fact that TV stations are in large metro areas and tend to report those conditions. Yesterday in Vernon, Texas it was 110, with today's forecast at 111. It will probably top that and be in the 110 range all week long. Vernon is a small farming community with not much more than a few oil wells and a grain elevator. It doesn't seem to warrant much attention on the news except as an oddity.

I know about the "misery index". Was in Tenn. one time, it was 95 and humidity was about the same. NO FUN

Had humidity here a day or so ago 30% and the swamp box could not keep up. We "May" get some rain around the 4th., but I not hold my breath.

Must be close to Robies Junction Ajo Highway W86?
Worked all day with truck engine in the red and next morning the temp would still be above normal temp. Motel room swamp cooler felt good . better when open the door for more air flow then blocking acess with chair under door knob.
Enjoyed Tucson back when the Miracle Mile Hiway was almost country road. And highway speed was what the truck would do.

Could you ship about 10 degrees of your excess heat up to western Oregon? We could use some heat. And we'll ship you some rain in return.

Second wettest spring on record, crops are about a month behind. Evey year Portland makes a big deal about their rose festival. This year there were hardly any roses; they had to import most of them.

I'd love to send you about 20 degrees.
Well past 80 days of no rain. That's in town and it rained there since here. 3 rains last winter 1/2" or less each time. :(

We here in WA would like some of you heat also, 10, maybe 15 degrees. We have had 9 days over 70 degrees this year and some of them where cloudy. :( I think we have had less than 3 weeks all told this year that have been really sunny. In may we had 1/2" above average rainfall but now in june it has just been cloudy with little rain and we are an 1" below average. (which is fine cause it is letting everything dry out from all the rain we have had, (we got lots of rain in march and april))

I suppose the rest of the country may be warmer than usual but not the northwest. Everything has been wet and cold. The house only heats up the the mid 60s and we are now in the summer season. I still have wood setting by the fire to warm up the house if it stays this cold and rainy.

The beans are only about 5" tall.

Next time you drive through Wye stop at the park read the plaque. Used to have a Cousin that was over the P.D. copper smelter. Tucson Uncle that started the shooting range East of town and Lived in the area when "T" Fords was only transportation.
We normally stop at the Ghost Ranch Motel when in the area. just off the Miracle Mile high way.
Old Tucson State Park great place to visit. Of course John Wayne was a kid then.

Ken,
When you were working on the pipe line, did you happen to meet or know a guy named Barny Hockstead? He wound up living in Tombstone after the pipe job was over. I went to school with his son.

Next time you are close, I'll send you a PH#, give me a call and stop by.

One of Granddad's last jobs was building stage coaches for "Old Tucson". Built 6 of them. I helped a little on the job. That was in the 70's.

As a kid it was fun to be in bisbee when the shot the pit. Around noon a siren would go off. Soon the big boom and the whole area shook.

Have fun,
Jim

Think it will be 117 tomorrow.

Tough year. Our vegetable farm down southeast of Tyler just about burned up, basically, by early May when I was down. Sad. Brothers down there say nobody got hay and everyone is selling off their beef. Understandable.

The earth's equator overheats as it bakes in the sun. The earth dissipates its heat into the poles. The mixing of the heat into the colder polar air masses is what makes continental weather. If someone is baking in heat and drought, you can bet someone else is cold and wet. When weather systems don't get mixed, this is the result. Tough year. No matter what extreme you're facing.

The "relief valve" is often hurricanes. Here's to hoping for minimal damage, but somehow, someway, this has to change and hurricanes can do it like little else can.

Jim I went to work for another type company it was in '74 Couple of years after Pres. J. Carter had a midsummer nights dream and declaired the shortage of gas so shut down the pipelines across the country.
Phelps Dodge Copper Co. had to start burning crude oil in the smelters Auto speed limit reduced to 55MPH. from unlimited if the truck would acheive it.
Liked Douglas area Bisbee Lowell also good. Out of Bisbe is a tunnel after going through look to top of Mt. At the Radio towers for communication used to take care of a Micro wave site.
We have plans on going past the area either this fall or next spring. Depending on the weather . Dry is normal but nothing for rain another.
