The dealer wants over $800 for the bracket that secures the drawbar. So, off to the shop I go to make one.

I was able to find a drawing of the bracket on the JD Parts catalog and also three pictures of one that is for sale ($900). I was able to get a good idea of what this bracket is to look like and how it attaches to the tractor. However I don’t fully understand how the drawbar is attached and why it seems like it is intended to pivot several degrees to the left and right within the bracket.

Can anyone shed some light on this before I get too far into this project?

I will try to post what pictures I have. Thank you all for any help.

I’m not sure what I am doing here.

Looks like I did it. This is a view from the bottom.

Notice the “cage” on the left side where the drawbar is placed. It looks like the bar can pivot on the pin that goes through the hole in the cage.

Yes, looks like you did recreate their drawing ( (y) ). A drawbar is another hitching point on the tractor that is typically lower than the center of gravity. This is the place you really want to pull, tug, etc from for wagons, trailers, mowers, and whatnots. Also makes a handy trailer tie down with a shackle. A drawbar does have some slop in them because the one pin(6,7 from your pic + an hitch pin) allows it to. A hay wagon, baler, disc doesn’t really care about sub 1” tolerances in yaw. The advantage is one pin to remove or change length.

Yes, I understand these pins are typically greater than a slip fit however I want to know about the requirement for two pins. In the drawing, PIN number 6 is located in the center hole of the bracket. There is also a second PIN number 4 on the other end. It seems this pin can be inserted into one of three holes which would place the drawbar at an angle to the centerline of the tractor.

Moreover, the cage where PIN number 6 is inserted is not square. Notice the sides of the cage are placed at an angle, presumably to allow clearance for the angle of the drawbar.

Drawbars normally are able to angle off to the left or right depending on the equipment pulled. Depends on the desired tracking of the equipment with respect to the centerline of the tractor, in your case the 110 TLB.

There is a center pin to the front, and other pins are dropped in the rear of the bracket to capture the drawbar either with two pins to center it, or with other pins to hold it right or left. Or no pins, to allow the drawbar to swing freely.

Yes, it is obvious how it goes together and works but I didn’t see the advantage until I gave it more thought.

I can see now an angled drawbar being less of a lever when pulling in a turn with the tractor, much like having a shorter drawbar would. I can see how this could improve tracking when pulling a heavy load around a turn.

When I was a youngster helping my grandfather and uncle baling hay, the drawbar was offset to help with the PTO shaft angles. I don't think it helped a lot, but that is why they offset the drawbar with the baler.
