Hi All,

My rear tires are worn out and need replacing, they are 14.9 - 24 running on 12" rims

I have a near new set of 11.2-24 tires , my question is will they fit on the 12" rims?

and is it safe to do so?, any drawbacks in doing this?

The tractor is only used for cutting grass.

Thanks, John

If they are tubeless, it might be hard to seat the bead. Try a ratchet strap or a come-along around the tread.

Yep, as Rick said, they'll work fine. If tubeless you may experience the problem Xfaxman described.

One thing you might have problems with is them coming off the bead in a turn if you don't over inflate them. Like the stretchies on cars operated by people of dubious intellect, the natural reflex of the tire will be to spring away from the bead.

Can you explain how turning would cause that to happen on rear tires?

Side thrust from inertia on a sidewall with insufficient pressure to keep it on a bead it was never intended to reach. Probably not an issue on a mower, and definitely not a safety concern. I only mentioned it because those tires usually have a pretty low operating pressure.

Yep, I knew it could happen on the front and under inflated tandem axle trailer tires.

Just never had it happen on a rear tractor tire.

Consider that the rim flanges will stick out beyond the tire. Not an issue unless you end up skimming against an occasional solid object.
