I need a hydraulic or mechanical shear with a capacity of 10' x 10ga.

I've narrowed my search down to either of these two pexto shears. I cant tell if they are the exact same or which is newer.

This one is 6 hours from me and I can travel there to see it in operation. he will take $7000 for it and then I will have to pay for it to be shipped to my shop.

This one is much farther from me and I will not be able to see it in person before the purchase. They say it runs fine and I would have to take their word for it. I can probably get this shear for $5500.

I was burnt on a stomp shear before when the seller told me it worked and I found out after the purchase it in fact did not. Any advice on a purchase this large? This will be the most I've ever spent on a single used machinery. What things should I look for in a shear? I have only single phase electric but all shears of this size are 3 phase and I will have to run a phase converter.

See when the last time the blade was sharpened. I wouldn't buy one without either getting to see it work or getting some kind of warranty from a reputable used machinery dealer.

I was concerned about the blades needing to be sharpened. I asked how much and they said it would be about $200. Does that sound right?

Last I looked, there were 3 watchers on that shear, so $5500 may not be a done deal.

I've had luck getting a local sheet metal guy (who has a bigger shear) do some jobs for me in this gauge for only a small fee. Anyone near you that could help out?

Also, I've had reason to call Pexto a few times and talked to their staff. They can tell you who can do it, where it can be done and how much to expect it to cost for a sharpening.

I have a local shop shearing my metal for $15 a 4x10 sheet. Sometimes there are only 4 cuts out of a sheet. The convenience of being able to do the work in house right when I need it is the main reason I want a shear.

I don't know what it costs to sharpen a blade but $200 sounds pretty reasonable. It might be a good idea to see if you could pay a machinery dealer to check it out for you? I think having a shear would be great tool to have as well as a brake and a roller but that costs a lot of money.
