Remember, the John Deere and Club Cadet (just to name a couple) that are sold at home depot and lowes are not exactly the same units you buy at the dealers...they have to skimp on some parts to get the price lower than the dealers....

The John Deere versions that Home Depot and Lowes sell are EXACTLY the same models as the dealers sell. They cost the same at all places.

Sorry, but that is not accurate. They are made with lesser grade components in order to be offered at a lesser price. Service is also an issue - dealers take care of you alot better.

This is not unlike other products these big box stores sells. Purchased a power washer witha honda engine a a few years back and had trouble with it. Ended up a a honda dealer and when all was said and done, although the pump looked the same, it was a cheaper and inferior pump that was the culprit. The small price difference to buy from the dealer would have been worth it.

The models sold at the box stores and at John Deere dealers are exactly the same. If you mean a LA Series is made with "lesser" componets than a 300 Select Series etc. that is one thing but the same model number tractor at Lowes is the same tractor at a dealer.

Sorry to break it to you big box haters (I'm not crazy about them either), but even the Deere dealer by me told me himself that the LA series is exactly the same as what you get at HD/Lowes. The X300 series is definitely different. Kawasaki engines to start with.

The 10XX series Cubs at HD seemed to be exactly the same as the ones at the Cub dealer. I stared at and fiddled with them for a long time .. that's not to say there couldn't be any "invisible" differences.

The Cub Cadet 1000 and 1500 series tractors and the Deere LA series tractors sold at the "box" stores are EXACTLY the same machines sold at their respective dealers. Each dealer also offers higher end models with different model numbers. You can't buy a Cub Cadet 3000 series or a Deere X300 or X500 series at any box store. Now is the set up of a new tractor the same at a box store as good as the set up of one at a dealer? That depends.... most box stores have their machines set up by a dealer, but some do their own, even though it's against the manufacturer's policy.

Not exactly the same, but not going to argue the point any further. Everyone has to believe what they want to based on their own reserach.

Post some evidence of specifics and I'll listen.

The JD dealer who said they were exactly the same is the one who sets up all the big box store JD's in my area. Not saying he's infallible, but you'd think they'd be in the know.

The Deere LA series sold at Lowes in Auburn, WA are setup and delivered from AgriShop John Deere dealer in Auburn, WA.

I have seen the Agrishop dealers sticker on the mowers at Lowes.

The only difference I would think of, maybe the Lowes ones don't have gasoline in them. One of the big box stores actually says online, will delivered by local Deere dealership.
