I always ran 15-40 in my other diesels, but it was very thick in the winter. In fact, after running for an hour or so it was still thick. It is not easy to find 10-30 weight oil rated for diesel service (the "C" class) but that is what this 4610 Kubota calls for. After thinking about it for a while, I do not think I was doing my engine any favors running 15-40, since I was running for short (a couple hours) periods in cool to very cold conditions. The 10-30 makes more sense for me in this climate and I feel the engine is getting better lubrication with the thinner oil. If I lived in the south or ran hell for leather in a commercial useage, the 15-40 would be the ticket. The 10-30 oil I use is Chevron Delo 400, and I have to order it from the local jobber since it is not commonly available (but you will find Delo 400 15-40 almost anywhere, and if that is the weight you want, it is an excellent oil)
