Hi All,

My tractor needed fuel and thinking winter is coming I put in 10 gallons of #1 from Citco. I then thought that winter is really a ways off and am now wondering if I will hurt my engine running 10 gallons of #1 through it in warm weather. From what I have read #1 has slightly less lubricity that #2, my gut tells me 10 gallons is not going to hurt the engine.

What do you guys think, should I drain it or run it? The Kubota manual says to use #1 when the temperature is less than 14F.

Thanks in advance,
Ed

It won't hurt it. Just go ahead and run it out.

If it really bothers you add a additive like "Power Service" to the mix. Found at Wal-Mart. In 2006? we all will need this when the EPA mandates all sulfer to be removed from diesel fuel.

Bearing in mind that I'm completely **** retentive here is my answer. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'd siphon out half and add #2 with a little powerservice or other additive and then burn the drained half in the same mixture. If you're 50/50 you're good to a pretty low temp, so you'd have 20 gallons of "winter blend".

Just my .02

Dave

You payed a little more for a few less btu's, and the engine will run just a tiny wee bit hotter, but you shouldn't hurt anything at all unless you were running the tractor near it's limits. If it bothers you, blend in some #2 as you can, but it's no problem. I go through several thousand gallons in the tractors here in Minnesota, #1 & #2. You'll be fine.

I have no experience using it in the tractor.. but my home heating oil guy told me that if It ever got REAL cold and the furnace started acting up.. pour in some number one to thin out the number two..

he described it as "liquid gold" for the furnace!

Here's an interesting link with info on the "fuel food chain"..

It was only about 20 degrees last night, not really that warm. If you're REALLY worried about it, just wait until Tuesday. Our local weatherman has predicted several inches of snow. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I've heard of them mixing kerosene with diesel in the winter when its really cold.
Sort of on a side note, down at the south pole everything runs jet fuel. They top the planes off when they fly there, and since it only takes half a tank to make the round trip, they take the other half off at the south pole for the station to run off of. I think that stuff gels at around -48 or -58 degrees F.

Jet fuel is basically very clean kerosene.
