Has anyone had any problems with the cruise control on the Grand L 30 series? I had the 5030 on cruise in mid range, hit the brakes to avoid the cow, as it moseyed across the road, and the cruise lever only came halfway up. I reach down and pulled it the rest of the way up to stop the tractor. I am in a lot of fine sand, does something need greasing, oiling or adjusting?

I can only speak for myself but here goes. I have a 3130 and use the cruise control when mowing the front yard (@6 acres). I have used the turning breaks for fun and practice but for no real purpose. However, when I have been running the cruise with the break pedals locked (which is most of the time), I have never had a problem with cruise returning to off and the tractor stopping. I'm on what used to be pasture for hogs and horses. Covered with "grass" but over a sandy type soil.

Thanks for the reply Danadsr. With no one else having any cruise control problems this seems like a very isolated incident which usually is cause by operator error. I will double check everything again. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Thanks.

Don:

On my 5030HSTC, if I have the cruise lever on (and I do quite a lot). A hard stab on the brake pedal will release it all the way. I wonder if the return spring has come off under the fender?? I keep my brakes locked together all the time. I never had the reason to brake steer the unit.

Must be another case of "cheapo" foreign springs... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

5030, is the spring visible? Where exactly is it? I checked the cruise linkage to the end last week and saw no spring (but I wasn't looking for one). Or is the spring on the brake? I'll look again next week.
Maybe I just need to jab the brake harder. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Does your cruise lever come only part of the way up if you step on the break lightly??
Thanks.

Steve, about you post - I was thinking what the .... a orange and green war on my post, no way! I am multi colored myself.
then I saw the comments on the safety\JD recall ROPS post and now I see where you are coming from. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Exactly - I think we're both being funny /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ...at least I am!

Besides, I came darn close with both Oranges... no war here - Deere just worked out right, funny thing is if...

If Kubota had an L3130 or 3430 set up I may have gotten that
If Kioti had a better dealer in the area I may have gotten that

Deere just had it all in place and they are close to my house. I think they're all great! I'm still amazed by what great tools these things are.

Don, on my L3430....I can slow the cruise down by the pressure I use on the brake...I'm not sure I could stomp the brake hard enough to completely release the cruise...I usually try to keep one hand ready to pull back on the cruise lever ...I only use the cruise when mowing the pasture and to pull the tractor forward when using the backhoe.

I'll have to look into this when it gets light out...

Update on cruise control problem: Operator Error.

5030, you were right, it takes a "hard jab". In fact, it takes a sustained hard jab. By sustained I mean one full second (one-thousand-one). After experimenting with it I realized it is very different from an electronic vehicle cruise control. The tractor cruise control feels mechanical and does not release with a tap on the brake. It will not release completely if you lightly touch the brake or if you hit the brake fast with out holding it. I will have to remember to brake like I mean it - to avoid cow damage. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
