I couldn't remember what was on the recall paper. I haven't taken mine in as of yet

I bought an 2012 Cummins and I must say I don't mind doing the oil change on it - I sit a 2 litter bottle under it and drain it straight into that (I put a valve in the place of the drain plug). I have to say that is a lot easier than my old Tundra. Now I don't really enjoy putting the 3 gallons of oil back in it when it is done draining however..... The Tundra is a great truck, bad design to change the oil however. I mostly took as much time messing with the skid plate as it took me to drain the oil!

Cummins trucks are cake to change the oil on.

The worst vehicle, or at least right up there, to service is a 4wd Dodge Nitro with a 3.7L. Those suck!!!!

Never worked on them but I hate the Nitro. It and the PT cruiser are the only two cars on my don't rent list. As a pilot I rent aprox 150 cars a year and I absolutely hate both of them. My company has a travel dept and they have learned I will not accept either one of them.

I always hate GM trucks. Seems there is always a cross member that the oil drains on. Just did my neighbors mowers and his 07 Dmax today. It always makes a mess. On my 05 I put a valve on that I could slide a hose over to drain it into a pan. He will not let me do it to his. Does not trust the valve. It seems that every GM truck I have owned and worked on was this way with the cross member. Why the could not do like Ford and Nissan and just build in the plastic deflector thing? Usually takes me a can of brake parts cleaner when I am done with his Dmax. Good thing its only twice a year.

The plastic deflector that holds the oil and allows it leave a few drops a day unless you use an entire can of brake clean.

Dodge Dakota (that I just sold) had the plastic deflector that would aid with capturing oil when replacing the oil filter

Dealerships make their money on parts and service more than selling cars. The engineers are helping the dealers make more money by forcing the dealer to do all services even oil changes.

Wait until you see the underside of an eco-boost. Filter is a nightmare to even get to and you've got to remove all kinds of "shielding" just to get to the plug. I assume they did it for the aero-affect but I'm seriously considering getting rid of the shielding, it holds dirt and mud and just seems to be a bad idea in general. The filter is way up on the front of the engine and I made a real mess trying to get it off.

When I changed . I went woth Amsoil. Toyota doesn't spec. synthetc for this truck.I don't know where you get 5-10k oil change. I base my changes on UOA. For me, I can do without the skid plate. Next oil change , it won't be re installed

I agree, however the 'light' comes on every 5k. I change it every 10k. I use Mobil One 5w20. If you can not get 10k out of synthetic oil, then why use it?

Toyota has vehicles now that come with synthetic oil, and they recommend 10k oil changes for them.

my 08 tundra came through with toyota synthetic aint much different in price then moblle one which my other vehicles use,8 quarts is alot of money to spend for every 5000 miles ,but i do it.Yes the skid pan is a pain in the rear

Haven't changed mine on my 2011. Still have the dealer free changes up to 25K. I'm coming up on it within a month and then it'll be up to me. Funny how my 2009 4Runner is the easiest to change oil in. Inverted filter on the top front of the motor. Even has a cup built in to catch oil that drains out. How does a company that comes up with that then turn around and design one that's much more difficult? The world may never know!:smiley_aafz:
