I have a 03' B21, I was using the 3-point hitch to do some box bladeing the other day, about 20 min of use the hitch would not come off the ground. I have plenty of hydraulic fluid
in the system, if anything it is over full from removing the back hoe with too many cylinders compressed. I have rotated the knob between the seat in all directions, and ensured
the valve that is either up or down for either back hoe operation or 3-point hitch appears to be working correctly. When trying to lift the 3 point hitch, the hydraulic line loop moves ever so slightly like it is trying to lift, just with very little or no force. I have not tried to remove the box blade yet to see if it will lift with out any load. Any suggestions would be a huge help.

Meathouse--I have a '97 B21. When I drop the BH to mount the 3pt hitch, I couple the supply and return lines together. Then I pull up the selector valve rod handle ( the "L shape rod" located right side under seat ) which I believe allows the 3pt lifting arms to operate. Refer to your operator's manual hydraulics unit section to confirm. Your '03 could be different than my '97. Hope this helps.

Meathouse, My 05 B21 is doing the same thing that you were seeing with yours. Did you find the problem and have any luck fixing it? I really need some help on this. Anything you can suggest will be appreciated.

There are a number of things that could be wrong. There is a control valve that is situated under the hydraulic block that the position control arm connects to (the lever at your right). When the position control lever is moved rearward to lift the implement, the spool of the position control valve is pushed in to form a raising circuit by the arm assemblies that connect to the control valve. I know, it's hard to describe but if nothing else is working for you, I would check the linkage of the arms on the control valve to see if something looks amiss. If there is no noise when you are attempting to lift something, then the possibilities are:

  1. Control valve is broken.
  2. Relief valve spring is damaged.
  3. Spool sticks.
  4. Piston O-ring or cylinder is damaged.

It looks like meathouse made one post, found his answer and moved on.

Great help, Dennis. Thanks for the detailed information. The control valve linkage was bent and not extending full range. Reading your post I checked back through all the connections and linkages. And there it was. Not obvious. Your response is well appreciated.

Always glad to help a B21 and B21 owner.

I like mine so much I made a web page for it, if you get bored sometime.
