    best chainsaw?

Ok, lets here some opinions about the best make of chainsaw, from a performance, reliability and safety standpoint. Price is not really important. I have 13 acres, 4 wooded and a bunch of small trees and saplings to clear out from the 9 acres. There are some big trees that need cutting as...

    tired tractor?

My tractor seem to get tired today, after a couple of hours of bush hoggin. The cutter would slow down, as if it were gettin bogged down, but the stuff was not too thick and basically the engine would just start dyin slowly--still idlin but not allowing me to give it any fuel. If I let it rest...

    proof that a bl20 will lift a 1,000 pounds

There has been some discussion recently about the specs on tractors and what they are really capable of doing. Here I am lifting my 30 series Midwest cutter with some extra weight from the chaingurads--over 1,000 pounds. The bl20 fel on my Branson 3520 picked it up like it was nothing.

gear oil put in by whom?

Who usually puts in the gear oil in a new rotary cutter purchase--the retailer or the buyer? I know manufacturers like to ship dry.

    Rotary Cutter  frozen rotary cutter

I was using my 5' medium duty rotary cutter with a slip clutch the other day (80 hp gearbox) when I hit a stump and whack, the engine immediately died (unusual because it usually chokes and then is fine if I quickly raise the cutter above the obstruction). I had been using it for several hours...

    toyota vs humvee

A while back we had an interesting discussion about which of these vehicles would make better fighting vehicles for infantry. Here's a story which I think demonstrates the humvees main strength--it's tough as nails under fire. BAGHDAD, July 8 -- The combat engineers inside the tan Humvees had...

    fourth of July follies

Well, time for some humble pie and perhaps others can learn from my Fourth of July follies. Most of the clearing I've been doing has been dense thickets and saplings. Decided to cut a path through the woods for a change. First pass goes o.k. but I did get hung up on some some deadfall and...

    frey loaders on Branson

Hey everyone, Stopped by my local Branson dealer and got a bit of surprise--all the loaders were made by Frey Industries in Canada. Looked over the scene pretty carefully but did not operate the loader (will as soon as I get the chance). First observations...the joystick is in a much better...

    fel problem

The last time I used the loader, it seemed to be losing some power when curling the bucket. I thought it might be due to fluid loss (looked and thought it was low but the darn fluid was just too clean to see . I added a bit of fluid before realizing it was nearly full. Yesterday when trying to...

    hydraulic fluid

How often should you have to add hydraulic fluid? I know it depends on many factors, so I'll fill you in a bit on my situation. My main hydraulic pump holds just under 9 gallons and I have operated the tractor for about 25 hours. It appears I need to add a few quarts. Is this normal?

    Ballast  filling rears

I've had my tractor for about two months now. My land is very hilly and I have a lot of heavy clearing to do. Originally I wanted to get my rears filled for ballast, stability on the slopes and transferring more power to the ground. My dealer dissuaded me, saying I should get a feel for how the...

My quest is over (or just beginning!)

I've been looking for over a year; I've known which tractor I wanted since November; and I even sealed a deal back in January. But not until Saturday before last was my new baby delivered (almost as exciting as my first child's birth) . Unfortunately, I only got to play with for an hour the...

    chain guard?

How important do you all think a chain guard is for a rotary cutter that will be used to clear around 8 acres of pretty ugly multiflora/cedar/other saplings up to 3". The land was clearcut 20 years ago and hasn't been touched since. Thanks.

    Rotary Cutter  Rotary cutter q's

Rotary cutter q\'s I am going to purchase a Branson 3520 with fel and am in the market for 3 pt. implements. I have 13 very messy acres to clear (many decent size saplings, heavy multiflora rose, etc.) and a lot of road cutting to do. From what I have learned from this forum, the two most...

Oil & Fuel  diesel fuel storage

This has got to be the best source of information on the net! Congrats to all of you who are willing to give your time and share information. Question about diesel fuel storage that I have not seen addressed. I have 13 acres and live an hour away from the property, which I will probably only...
