Cat 257B hydraulic fan cutting off

Typically proportional hydraulic fans have a “fail full on” logic in the design. This means that if the power is cut to the proportional control valve, it will default to full fan speed. If you can find the proportional valve that controls the fan, unplug the electrical connector and see if...

    RK55 Hydrostatic Creeping

I have to be upfront and tell you that I have no experience on the RK tractors, however I do have experience on hydrostatic transmissions. So I will try and work through some traditional troubleshooting techniques. So here we go... Is this something that just started happening or has it been...

    Case DH4B Trencher/Backhoe Won't Spin Trenching Chain

I have been unavailable for a while, so I am trying to get caught back up here. :) I saw a couple of posts regarding the displacement of an 18 Series. The answer is 2.3 cu in or 37.7cc. If you are running this pump at 2000 RPM you would have a theoretical flow of 19.78 GPM. A few other...

John Deere 4300 Shaking When Engaging HST (forward or reverse)

The noise you are hearing is caused by high system pressure. There is something that is loading the hydraulic motor in the transmission. It is either the motor itself, something mechanical in the gear transmission/final drive or the brakes. The next question is why is there high system...

    Case DH4B Trencher/Backhoe Won't Spin Trenching Chain

oldnslo, here are my responses... 1. There are two trunion shafts on this pump, so theoretically if you rotate one and see the opposite side rotate, then you can rule out the pins being displaced. 2. This pump has high pressure relief valves so it is safe to run it in a "dead head"...

    Case DH4B Trencher/Backhoe Won't Spin Trenching Chain

It would be helpful if you could take a picture of the other 2 pumps so that we can identify what they are which will help us figure out what each one of them are doing. My assumption is that you have this architecture on this machine: 1. One open circuit pump that controls the cylinder...

    Case DH4B Trencher/Backhoe Won't Spin Trenching Chain

So there is only 2 possible explanations to what you have happening. 1. The pins (12) that attach the shaft (6) to the swashplate (11) have either sheard off or fallen out. This would cause the swashplate to remain in a neutral position, even though you are rotating the shaft. 2. There is a...

    Case DH4B Trencher/Backhoe Won't Spin Trenching Chain

There are two scenarios that I attempted to show in my attached pictures. The first one is that your gauge is on the "low side" of the loop and stroking the pump will result in a slight decrease in charge pressure. The second is that your gauge is on the "high side" of the loop and that will...

    Case DH4B Trencher/Backhoe Won't Spin Trenching Chain

Thanks for the pictures, that helps tremendously! I have looked at your pictures and have marked up the picture to show the case drain versus the charge pump inlet. The check valve that you showed is on the case drain, which makes more sense. In the picture you show a gauge port. Where the...

    Case DH4B Trencher/Backhoe Won't Spin Trenching Chain

Would you mind double checking based on this diagram? If it is on the charge pump inlet, I can’t think of any reason why it would be there. It would only lead to more pressure drop that makes it more difficult to get oil into the inlet of the charge pump. The only place that a check...

    Case DH4B Trencher/Backhoe Won't Spin Trenching Chain

Here are a couple of options for you: Northern Tool Discount Hydraulics I would go with a 0-600 psi gauge for charge pressure. That would work for measuring it on your propel system as well. You can have a test hose made up at a local NAPA or you can even just buy one online at Discount...

JD 5403/512 FEL low lift capacity

I have attached two pictures. The first one is where on the tractor you can find the main relief valve. It is item "O" on that diagram. The second is a picture of the SCV valve where the relief valve is located. The relief valve is item "A" on that picture. It doesn't appear that the valve...

    Case DH4B Trencher/Backhoe Won't Spin Trenching Chain

So what you have on that machine is an old Sauer-Sundstrand 18 Series pump. The model number is 18-2081. For Sundstrand/Danfoss, anytime you see a "R" at the end of a model number, it indicates that it has been remanufactured. The "LH" indicates that it is a Left Hand rotation pump...

    Danfoss or KYB transmission

Welcome to the forum. A few questions for you: 1. Did the tractor move at all when you tried midrange throttle? 2. Did you try both fwd and rev? Any difference? 3. Can you physically see the transmission? Any pics could possibly help.

    5203 Starting Problems

I had a similar problem with my 5403. It ended up being the PTO safety switch. It wasn’t fully opening even though the PTO lever was disengaged. The dead giveaway was that the PTO light was illuminated on the instrument panel when I switched the key on. Hope you can track down the culprit!

    Hydraulic pump basics

New problem with broom - lost hydraulics

New problem with broom - lost hydraulics

I think that the heat from welding on the pump shaft will destroy the pump shaft seal. If you go with a u-joint then I would look for a clamp style hub.
  25. D

New problem with broom - lost hydraulics

Another alternative to a u-joint could be to install an elastomeric coupling between the pump and the bearing. As long as your misalignment between those two shafts isn’t significant, a coupling with an elastomeric center could work. The other advantage of a coupling is that it is very...

New problem with broom - lost hydraulics

First of all, I am glad to hear you tracked down the problem. One phenomenon that occurs on shafts is fretting corrosions which can lead to a spline failure. I have seen this many times between mating shafts that have relative motion between them. A tell tale sign of this is you will find a...

New problem with broom - lost hydraulics

Do you happen to have any pictures of where you were measuring the pressure at? If a pump is really at 0 psi the shaft would be broken or not spinning for some reason. Typically you would have some flow out of the pump and should build up some pressure. A shaft can break but unless it has...

Hydro motor reseal or replace options

Typically those motors have a dust seal which rides on the shaft and then the shaft seal which is pressed into the end cover and held in place with a snap ring. The piece you pulled off with the pick was the dust seal. The shaft seal is still in the front cover and that is what is probably...

Groaning sound in reverse in 4600 HST

Maybe, sometimes you can access them without. Do you happen to have a tech manual for the tractor? If not, those valves are really right under the seat but you have to access them from the front direction. I don’t know if Deere put in any access holes in their tunnel. I took a picture of...

    Hydraulic control

Your assessment of the fender controls is accurate. They are there to make adjustments of the hitch height when you are out of the operator seat and trying to connect the arms to the implement. I would 100% avoid using those with anything attached to the hitch. The implement comes closer...

Groaning sound in reverse in 4600 HST

Based on your description I would also have you pull the high pressure relief valve for the reverse direction out of the hydro and inspect. You may have a piece of contamination partially holding open the valve. In the lower ranges the system pressure is also lower so a high pressure leak...

    Hydraulic control

When you replaced the potentiometer, did you happen to check the pins on the mating connector? Could be in the wiring from that sensor to the Bosch controller. Good test is to tug on each wire to make sure the pin is seated correctly in the connector or that the mechanical connection between...

Loader  Parking stands for JD 522 loader

I am a new owner of a JD 5403 that has a 522 FEL mounted on it. I bought it on an auction and when I got it home, started looking it over more. I then noticed that the parking stands that you attach to the frame when you want to remove the loader are missing. I called the local JD dealer and...
