I use Seafoam as a gasoline preservative for all of my small engines, 1 oz per gallon. I also try and use the ethanol free Rec 90 most of the time. I have had far fewer problems since I started doing this.

Yep, 2x4 is a must. They even come with pre-punched holes to make it easier to install.

Stihl is the only brand of chainsaw I use, and I deal with Rural King, which is only 20 minutes away. Guess I'm lucky. A tree guy I use occasionally only uses Husqvarna, so they can't be that bad.
