    Pictures of BIG Trees

Like so many things in the past, “Taken by fire.” I took some come from away friends around my hometown and I spent more time telling them about what used to be there but that it burned down. Fire, plague and pestilences seen to figure predominantly in our past.

Almost dripping wet paper towel followed by a dry one. Generally my stoves burn hot enough for long enough that there isn’t much soot build up.

Where to Site Ken's Bolt-On Hook on Backhoe Bucket?

Has anyone installed a receiver on their bh bucket? This would allow for a range of possible connections. Keeping it out of the way but still serviceable would be the trick.

    Interesting observations...

I have never washed my tractor. It gets greased, maintained, pto and hydraulics capped when not in use and is stored in an open side shed. I treat my tractor as a tool to be respected and cared for. Caked on mud gets rinsed off by driving across the brook. I guess it depends on your relationship...

Can anyone tell me what tractor operation is being done in this video?

I would say that land is being reclaimed following sand storms. Probably fertile land underneath.

How many of your friends do NOT have tractors?

I always though they left the ground cultivated and fertilized. The movement of the pen was the tractor although it moved slow. We moved our’s in strips over an old garden bed in a straight line every few days. By the time the chickens went to the great beyond an old garden spot was revitalized...

    Recommended wood stove brands

I have 2 Drolets. Both are stellar performers and designed for 2000 sq ft areas. I replace up the door gaskets every year and it keeps the chimney clean. My models require minimal clearances due to insulated sides and back. I have heat pumps for when we are not home.

Rotary Cutter Driveshaft failure. Your suggestions.

My vote would be that there wasn’t enough overlap on the pto shaft going from the smaller to larger tractor and it chances are it was pretty “warm” when it failed. IMHO

Generac Running, But No Power in House

I have had the same issue lately with mine. The outage goes on and off and on and off. The generator recognizes the outage and starts but the transfer switch is confused. Manually throw the transfer switch to the down position and everything will be fine. Sometimes the disconnect is not smooth...

    Retirement thoughts Past Present Future

Retirement at 55 meant sacrifices. I was once told that for every year before 65 that you retire you gain 5 years. I’m not sure if that is true, ask me again in 30 years, I hope. I lived my retirement financial lifestyle 2 years before retiring. I proved I could live on the money and allowed me...

    BH Teeth hood

Have you considered removing your teeth? My BH66 bucket has 3 teeth and they bolt on. Not that I have removed them but it could be done. I find my FEL does a better job for my ditching needs in most places. I am interested in the answers to your question.

Are There Different Ways To Sharpen A Brush Axe??

I have found loppers work best. My set has extendable handles and a ratcheting head which allow me to keep my hands back. For removal of briars and bramble I use the box blade with just the scarifiers touching about 2-4” in the ground. Several passes and everything is pulled out.

Wood stove top fans (heat powered)

I put mine at the front edge of my stove with my water bath behind it to help distribute the moisture. It is either pushing or pulling the air around it. Where ever you get the best action would be a good starting point.

Time to check out the generator.

A good plan is to start and run your generator 10 minutes. I have been doing this for 25 years and twice I found problems. A rodent chewed fuel line and dirty plugs. Not a good time to find out when you need it. We lose power at least 2 times a year for more than 8 hours and 4 times for a couple...

    What am i missing?

If you do not mow it will grow up in alders and what ever is naturalized on your land. Whether a finish mower or brush mower, it it necessary to manage a fire break around your home and out buildings. There is a balance between amount of mowing for safety versus therapeutic value versus time...

    Anyone cut firewood for health/exercise?

I don’t chop wood but make firewood from 8’ lengths delivered. My activities are getting limited due to age and interest but making my own firewood and handling it are one of my forms of exercise. It heats me many times. When I cut it, split it, pile it (in Holz Hausens) to dry and then move it...
