    Found a unicorn - Vermeer BC906

This 906 went for 9 grand a couple months ago. As much as I wanted it, I couldn't justify the price. https://www.equipmentfacts.com/listings/construction-attachment/auction-results/222819137/vermeer-bc906

    Found a unicorn - Vermeer BC906

Nice score! I bid on a couple of them through online auctions, but they went for crazy money, in my opinion. I ended up with a Vermeer 935, that "runs and operates" according to the ad. I haven't seen it run or operate yet, but I guess it runs on dirt, rust, sediment, and old kerosene...

    Kubota

Sounds like a good solution to a difficult time! I'm pricing Generac whole-house generators presently, hope to install before summer's over. I have a setup similar to yours, but only 7800 watts. I'm getting to be too lazy to bother with it, though.

    Lockable Metal Battery Box?

I have not. I'll give them a try, thanks. That's beyond my abilities, but I'm keeping the old one around for now in case I need to hire someone to repair it. That's Plan B, I think... if I can't find one already set up to accept a lock. Thanks for the replies, everyone.

    Lockable Metal Battery Box?

Hello, I just bought a well-used Vermeer 935 chipper with a rusted-out battery box. I am shopping for a replacement box and I see plenty of plastic options, but they have nylon straps to hold the lid on, and no way to lock it. There are some aluminum options too (Summit Racing & eBay) but...

Understanding Curb Weight, GVWR, Towing and CDL requirements

Virginia regulations look exactly like other states we've reviewed in this thread. I wonder why they claimed a Class B CDL would suffice for a combination over 26k including a trailer at 14k?

Understanding Curb Weight, GVWR, Towing and CDL requirements

@screamin400 that seems like a big mistake for someone who just studied and tested on this topic. LD1 is correct, and NYS law appears to be consistent with most other states cited in this thread. From New York's website:

Understanding Curb Weight, GVWR, Towing and CDL requirements

Hmmm... Perhaps there's a way an individual can have their truck (dually) and trailer de-rated. That would seem logical to me, even though logic and the law sometimes are at odds. It would be like going to the state and saying, "I'm going to take this very capable truck and this very capable...

Understanding Curb Weight, GVWR, Towing and CDL requirements

Yeah, thanks. It's woefully inadequate to pull a 17k trailer. I'm still looking for the best non-CDL solution to move a 13k machine... Fortunately, I don't need to move it anytime soon, so I have time to figure it out.

Understanding Curb Weight, GVWR, Towing and CDL requirements

Your flow chart shows a trailer of 10k or less, towed by a truck at 26k or less... does not require a CDL.

Understanding Curb Weight, GVWR, Towing and CDL requirements

This change in law was decades ago, and I don't recall all of the specifics. Back then, I drove a tow truck for a shop I worked at, and I got the CDL not because I needed it, but because it was so simple to get, there was no downside to getting it. When the new law went into effect, the...

Understanding Curb Weight, GVWR, Towing and CDL requirements

Well, yeah, depending on how long ago "previously" is. I passed all the written tests for Class A, B, Bus, HazMat, etc. and, therefore possessed a CDL. Piece of cake. Then one day I received mail from the Ohio BMV stating that they had a new law, and I would have to take a driving test to...

Good point. I vote for bypassing 30k and 35k, and going straight to 40,000 lbs! 😂 Seriously, there is a whole lot of room between: - 26000 lbs (my daughter who barely passed her driving test in a Civic is allowed to operate with no additional endorsement), and - 80,000 lbs, 75 foot-long...

Understanding Curb Weight, GVWR, Towing and CDL requirements

That's a great question, and one I do not know the answer to. The sticker in the door frame shows the GVWR and both axle ratings, but no GCWR. Ford's site only goes back to 2004 with the towing ratings, as far as I can find... and my truck is a 1997 F-250 HD Supercab. But considering it has...

I believe what Omega linked to is a legit online school to prepare you for the written "theory" test. After passing that test, you are ready to pay a "registered training facility" to provide your behind the wheel training, which prepares you for the driving test. It appears that Ohio (and...

Upon further review, it appears that I made an inaccurate statement here: Today, I found a 17000 lb. GVWR trailer listed with 13,000 lb. load capacity. So, it could handle my Kubota, with no capacity to spare. My F-250 is rated at 8,800 GVWR, which would give me a combined GVWR of 25,800...

Thanks. You're saying a tandem axle trailer with two 8k axles, bumper pull in order to minimize tongue weight on the truck rear axle, and the truck would have a GVWR of 10k (or less)?

@Omega-Woods, I hope you don't mind me asking a question on your thread, but it might yield some advice that is beneficial to you, as well... I have a Kubota that weighs in at 13,000 lbs. Based on what I've read in this thread, I won't be able to trailer it without a CDL, period. But I could...

What kind of box blade did I just buy?

It appears to me that there is an extra "r" in there, as in "landscRaper". What Insane/Crazy Price did You Pay Today?

I was told this particular unit was not rebuildable and needed to be replaced. It was leaking, so I had to do something. If my kid were an experienced driver, I'd be less inclined to maintain the TPMS side of things, but she's a newb and has crashed once already... so I pay.

What Insane/Crazy Price did You Pay Today?

A tire on my daughter's Civic had a slow leak from the TPMS sensor. I carried the wheel/tire into a local tire shop and handed them a new TPMS sensor to install. It took them no more than 3 minutes to install. Charged me $35 labor, plus tax. Looking back, I'm surprised they didn't charge an...

    Compressor for a shop

I'll agree with both of you. Compressing air is a ridiculously inefficient process, and the higher the pressure, the less efficient it becomes... and the harder the compressor has to work. That said, it sure is nice to have as much air as you need, whenever you need it! 👍 .

I give Up looking for a trailer.

I believe one reason for additional demand is just what we're talking about on this thread; if you wait a month the price may double, so you had better buy NOW! I bought a mini-excavator a couple months ago, and the timing of my purchase was due in part to inflation concerns. As scary as the...

    Knowing What U Know Now!

Back in 1999 I bought my first tractor, a 1957 Massey Ferguson F40, and I was thrilled with it (and still use it). A few years ago, I couldn't take the winters anymore in the snow capital of Ohio, so I bought a Kubota M7040 HDC-1 with cab, heat, a/c, FEL, etc. and I am still thrilled with it...

    New kubota tractor advice

I wouldn't be disappointed with that machine. It's good at doing what it's supposed to do. Making these efforts (and failing) helps you to understand the magnitude of what you're trying to accomplish. I have a M7040 with power at all 4 wheels, and I wouldn't expect it to be able to yank...
