Wrong hydraulic oil causing too much resistance in hydraulic pump?

When it was on the jack stands I would engage the hydraulic valve control for either wheel about 1/8 or less of the total lever/throw distance and the wheel would start spinning. It may have been spinning about full speed by then, but it was hard to tell. Then as I moved the valve lever...

Best way to clean up hydraulic fluid?

Open windows, fans, solvents and a fair volume of rags. A quart or so of acetone should do it or Naphtha if you want something less volatile.

Wrong hydraulic oil causing too much resistance in hydraulic pump?

They were not, but believe me, I have done dumber things than that :)

Wrong hydraulic oil causing too much resistance in hydraulic pump?

Solved. Langanobob nailed it. I took the mower off of jack stands and ran it on the ground. The hydraulic pump(s) made ugly noise for about 5 seconds, but then everything is started working normally. Apparently hydraulic motors (or at least my set up) can't be "free wheeling" otherwise...

Wrong hydraulic oil causing too much resistance in hydraulic pump?

That occurred to me, that perhaps the problem is not enough resistance against oil flow. But I have not tried it yet.

Wrong hydraulic oil causing too much resistance in hydraulic pump?

The hydraulics were fine before I changed the oil and filter. The new filter is OEM from a Gravely dealer (thought I will triple check the part no. today). After refilling the system, - the engine runs fine, - when I engage either or both wheel hydraulic motors the engine starts to start to...

Wrong hydraulic oil causing too much resistance in hydraulic pump?

Thanks rScotty you are correct. I drained the SuperTech and replaced with 20W-50 and, if anything, the problem is worse now.

Wrong hydraulic oil causing too much resistance in hydraulic pump?

I have a 30 year old Gravely zero turn mower with very little time on it (about 350 hours). I finally decided to change out the hydraulic oil and filter. I used what I had on hand for oil - Walmart SuperTech tractor transmission and hydraulic oil. It took a while for the system to fill up...

Bending square u-bolts with shop press

I have. I found metric equivalents for two applications: holding the spring assembly to the frame and the axle to the springs. But I am not sure I am going to use them for those applications. M8 is very noticably thinner than 5/16, ditto m10 for 3/8. Then if I go up one bolt size, can't find...

Bending square u-bolts with shop press

Have not bent any stainless yet. I bought Chinese 304 8m ubolts that i need to have threads extended 3/4" closer to the bends. I did about a half inch last night just to try it because I was concerned it might be a problem. Threading the 304 was actually quite easy, and I have not added...

Bending square u-bolts with shop press

I plan to use stainless. I have been on McMaster - all the widths are in whole inches, my bolts are not. The Nutty co. been there. I forget if they are one of the folks that make custom sizes? I have been to a dozen websites. In any case, the custom places are just doing carbon steel, and...

Bending square u-bolts with shop press

I am refurbishing an old Cox boat trailer and have been searching and searching for the correct size square u-bolts to fit various applications. I have decided it's impossible to find something you can live with, never mind finding a size you want. Has anyone fabricated a "die" set up for...

Log splitter and a flying log - safety

From you description of what happened, I agree with John_Mc. The ram must have been moving fast and quickly loaded preassure on the log that was "set" so going to slip of the ram anyhow, just not that fast and that far unless the ram was moving likewise.

Gallon of Dupli-Color #1620 Chevy Engine Orange for Kubota

I am refurbishing my 2000 L4310 and am planning to use Chevy engine orange. My machine has a Curtis cab, FEL and backhoe. More painting than practical for using rattle cans. I have not been able to find this paint in gallons. Does anyone know of a source? Are there other orange paints...

ID Vintage Ford Garden Tractor 1970 S470

I see a neat looking little tractor for sale on the internet. Ad describes it as a 1970 Ford Model S470 3 cy. diesel. The tin work makes it look like a little 1960s vintage Industrial Ford tractor. I can't find any info googling the internet. I am guessing it is a Ford branded tractor of...

Replacement Springs for and old Fisher Plow

I modified an early 1970s Fisher plow to mount on my FEL. This was my Dad's, the trip springs are original and I am looking to replace them. The springs are 3 inches OD, compressed length is 14 inches, and non-compressed length is 15 inches. I also want to replace the spring bars. Shopping...

4310 HST Speed rnage Shift Gear Linkage

2000 L4310 HST I took the cover off of the port that the speed range shifter comes up through. The gear was in low, and I tried shifting to medium but, apparently, not close enough to the correct patterns. Now the speed gear is in low - the shift lever moves but does not change the gear...

Can you have too much plasma cutter?

I am dreaming of the plasma cutter I see in my relatively near future. I am going to go new because ..... all my other stuff has been bought used, and I commonly see advice on this bulletin board and others that a plasma cutter is a good tool to buy new. My question: Does the ease and...

Gear Range Shifter Kubota L4310 HST

I have had this tractor for two years. Shifting between the gear ranges is very difficult to near impossible (I muscled it into high range just once, and though it was stuck there forever). I am looking for advice as to how to go about figuring out if this is due to a mechanical problem or...

    Woods BH9000 Hose fittings

I am replacing the hoses to the boom, dipper and bucket pistons on my BH9000 and am not sure about the fitting size. These are Woods part numbers 37957, 37956 and 37955 described as 3/8" ID hose with 9/16 JICF (i.e., female) fittings. They are straight, swivel female JIC fittings. When...

Brazing, need advise to fill a ding

I put a ding in the cylinder rod of my backhoe stabilizer leg. I filed the edges smooth and want to fill it and smooth it to keep it from ruining the seal. I plan to fill it with Safety Silv 45 flux coated - this is what was commonly referred to as silver solder or silver braze. I do a fair...

Climate Control Air Compressor for Shop Use

    FEL control valve flow rate

J_J, here is how my FEL is plumbed. Using existing fittings on the boom, I cold only tap into half of the curl circuit with a diverter valve (right or left) leaving the other half as part of the second function circuit. The only place to do it would be up near the cab.

welding on a modern tractor, computer concerns?

I have read that when welding on modern vehicles it is advisable to disconnect certain computerize parts. I have a 2000 Kubota L4310, and I imagine there is a computer or two in there somewhere. Does anyone have experience with welding on modern tractors and needing to be concerned about...

    FEL control valve flow rate

I have a Kubota L4310 with a 7.8 GPM hydraulic system. I am considering replacing my 2 spool FEL valve with a 3 spool valve as I want to add a separate set of hydraulic lines for remote hydraulics on the FEL. The selection of 3 spool valves in the 8 GPM range seems to be a limited. There are...

    FEL control valve problem

I have a Kubota L4310 HST with a FEL. When I plowed this past Sunday I had a problem with the loader valve. The boom won't raise when the lever is pulled all the way back; if I pull the lever past about 3/4 of its throw the boom stops at what ever height it is at. I can raise the boom...

Woods Backhoe skipping (for lack of a better word)

I bought a 2000 Kubota 4310 with a 9 foot woods backhoe in January of this year. This backhoe has it's own pump and hydraulic reservoir driven off the PTO. My first opportunity to play with the backhoe was this weekend. When I go to extend the boom, it hesitates and drops down a bit before...
