    A Duhh! Moment.

Blame it on a frozen brain syndrome. No cab on the tractor. Property is heavily wooded, ~1/2 up the south side of ridge/hill normally protected from the prevailing winter winds. But around the garage trees were cleared to avoid damage from downing trees. SW light breeze couple days ago...

    Tire chains, front only?

Longer (~0.2mi), hilly (steepest pitches ~10%) driveway in Lake effect snow country. Living without chains for the past several years. Over the past few seasons our winters have been getting warmer and warmer. Problem has been icy drive. Couple days ago snow blowing the drive (NH25D with 60"...

NH25D & other Boomer hydraulic cooling hose.

Have been absent from this forum for a bit. Wondering if NH has redesigned or if someone else has come up with an after market replacement. The part are those 90 degree reinforced rubber hoses that attach the hydraulic fluid cooling radiator to the metal hoses. I've been getting ~150 to 250...

    Changing coolant frequency.

Normally a flush & coolant change is part of my pre-winter maintenance on a NH TC25D. This year with the low hours of use (probably ~100 hr by autumn) I'm considering stretching it out for 12 more months. What type of coolant breakdown can occur over time? Considering the relatively minimum...

digging post holes on sloping terrain

Being a cheap fool I used treated landscaping timbers instead of real treated 4x4s for ~60 fence posts. After 9 years they are snapping at grade level. Half the new posts holes will be dug on terrain with a pitch >10%. Can a 3pt post-hole digger be SAFELY used under these conditions? Any...

Power Service & water seperating filters?

Does PowerService emulsify any H2O in your fuel resulting in no seperation when using a MrFunnel or similar filter? Just wondering if it's best to run the fuel through the filter 1st then add the PowerService.

    "slip-clutch" for 3pt snowblower

\"slip-clutch\" for 3pt snowblower Wondering if there exists a mechanical device that would "disengage" the PTO from turning the snowblower drive shaft before the shear point of the shear pin(s) on the shaft. Something that would interface between the PTO & snowblower. The shear pins would be...

"Premature" wear of ignition safety switch TC25D

\"Premature\" wear of ignition safety switch TC25D Problem recently developed in the switch that prevents starting if the range selector lever is not in one of neutral position. Occasionally the little "switch" requires a manual reset. Wondering if it's the white plastic roller that gets...

    Rake  Rakes & washboard

Do rakes efficiently remove/reduce the washboard surfaces that can develop on gravel drives? If so, are guide wheels necessary? The hilly sections of my driveway where breaking & acceleration occur get bumpy enough to shake your eyeball out of their sockets.

    recycling hydro oil

My NH dealer accepts used hydro fluid, oil & coolant. So getting rid of old fluids is no real problem. Couple days ago I was running low on chainsaw bar oil. Either a real stupid or semi-intelligent thought came up. Used hydro oil (~7.5gal/ change) looks real clean & seems oily. Why not use...

Boomer use or lack of use

I should change my username to NOSNOW. About one month ago the backblade was parked & the brand new Loftness 3pt snowblower was attached. Since then we have received no more than flurries to 3 inch "dump". My question is, except for the battery slowly discharging how long do I dare just let...

HST pedal not returning to neutral

Thought I had a sticking pedal. Loose lock nut on the bottom side of the piston spring housing located below the ignition switch (NH TC25D). The dealers service techs told me to check out three Boomer problems: 1.Stretching/expanding plastic fuel tank causing the plate to which the cruise mag...

    Additional worklights

I have mounted one rear facing floodlight (built in switch)using the existing spare hot wire that NH factory installs on CII Boomers. Is it possible to run a second light from that same harness(parallel wiring) and have both lights on without blowing a fuse or worse?

Safe & correct attachment of implements to PTOs

Problem: major fear/respect for the PTO, 3pt snowblower ordered my 1st implement requiring a PTO. I'll dig out the NH owners manual & see what it recommends regarding the attachment & disengagement of 3pt PTO implements. Any recommendations on the safest way for attachment & removal of a 3pt...

    lithium grease

Are the lithium greases one white (more cream like) the other red (more jelly like) basically the same? For lubing the FEL & tractor zerk fittings I've been using the white lithium.

Bucket Hooks  bolted on vs welded bucket hooks

Opinions/feedback about welded on vs bolted on (by U-bolts to the outer upper bucket surface close to the curled upper lip) hooks. Having no skills or experience with a welder limits me to bolt on hooks for a do-it-yourself project. Loads will probably be on the relatively light side (max of 300#)

    TC25D parking brake

Had a little brain fart, backed out of the garage down the drive couple hundred feet with the parking brake engaged. Was in 4wd pushing some slush/wet snow with the 3pt blade. Seemed a little sluggish. Took a look at the dash. RPMs were fine brake light was on. Not absolutely sure but it...

    changing boomer filters

On an unusually warm January day I decided better today than a cold day to do my 50 hour filter/fluid changes. Only one problem was the excessively tightly screwed on break-in oil filter. One surprise. The amount of hydro fluid that came flowing down my arm upon loosening the filter ( the long...

    3pt "snowblade"

3pt \"snowblade\" Has anyone seen or own a 3pt back-blade that more or less resembles the big snowplow blades county/hiway dept trucks have? Pushing snow around yesterday (blade reversed) was not very efficient due to depth and lightness of the snow. A taller funnelled shape blade should work...

Chains  tire chains, clearance on a TC25D with ag tires

The clearance between the fenders and tires (ag) looks a little tight for mounting chains. Any feedback regarding tire chains mounted on a TC25D with ag tires would be appreciated.

    NewHolland brand snowblowers

Any info and/or opinions about the New Holland 3PT mounted snowblowers? Local dealer sells these and a brand labeled (?)Allied. Durablity, reliability, performance and ease of servicing are what I'm looking for vs. inital cost.

rear wheels dished in vs dished out

A minor brain fart resulted in my TC25D set up with wheels dished in(Ag tires ?R1). I forgot to inform the dealer to have the rear wheels dished out. Dishing out would gain a few inches of width. Any experiences with this particular model ( or any other compact diesel) regarding stablilty of...

    NH TC25D, leaving in 4WD

Any reason not to leave the tractor in 4WD mode more or less permanently? So far (+26 hrs), work load & terrain has required 4WD assist. Have been leaving 4WD engaged while parked overnight(s). If the snow ever shows up 4WD assist will be necessary to push/pull/load snow. Probably need 4WD...

    TC25D / thanks for info

TC25D arrived late yesterday afternoon. Utilized the backblade right away. Delivery semi-truck got a little stuck coming up my driveway. Couple hours of grading the ski trails before darkness set in. Sure beats a wheelbarrow, pick, shovel and rake. Thanks to bird & markC for the info.

    ideal rpm during break-in period

NH TC25D @ dealership waiting for FEL. Question: What operating rpm is recommended during the first 150 hours for optimum "break-in"? Does it make a difference if your are in low, med. or high range? Heavy or light work load. The first 150 hours will probably be spent grading XC ski trails...
