Lift or mechanic's pit for new garage?

The ventilation system inside a pit is absolutely critical. My brother had one without one. Everything rusted when it was left in there. The lights and electrical, tire rims, etc... Once the electrical rusted out, it was super dark inside. Plus, I found that when working in it the floor was...

    Rant against insurance agencies

Not sure how it works south of the boarder in the US, but up here in Canada we have several Ombudsman that we can contact for this type of issue. Maybe do an internet search for that term "Ombudsman" with "insurance" and possibly "motor vehicle" to see what is available in your state.

Installing a 12” strike plate for security

I've reviewed this site. I don't know if this would be beneficial if someone is home (his wife). She would get a blast of spray as well as the burglars. I can see using this for when no one is home though. Or on a shop/shed/barn.

Installing a 12” strike plate for security

You might want something that secures your door to the floor, and not just the jamb. Useful when someone is home, as they can't be used when no one is home. https://www.bobvila.com/articles/best-door-security-bar/...

Clearing 154 acres of woods in west Tennessee

What LittleBittyBigJohn said. It's much easier to push over a tree. You have to have a large enough of a machine to be able to do this properly. You have to push from a certain height and be far enough away from the base for when it falls over as the majority of the root ball will "pop" out of...

Introduction and pole barn planning help

Since you're trying to overthink things, here's something else for the noggin'. Attic trusses designed for storage. I sure as heck wish I had thought of these on my last build. Having more storage space available for seldom used items would have been really handy.

Simple CAD software for barns and sheds?

Just to let you know, I'm a professional draftsperson. I use AutoCAD on a daily basis, along with several other professional 3D modelling software packages. Chief Architect's (or Better Homes and Gardens) lowest end program Home Designer Suite is super easy to learn and use. It does a great job...

    Cordless Tools vs. Other Options

I totally get what you mean, that you don't want to be tied to a certain brand/make. There are some options for adapters; https://badaptor.com/ If you end up getting an adapter or two, make sure as to NOT go with a cheap China knock off. They'll fry either your battery or your tool. Read ALL of...

    Which Backpack Blower?

I bought a used Stihl BR-600 a couple of seasons ago to help clear snow. I now also use it to blow the berries from a Mountain Ash on my front lawn and it gets all of the little berries that have burrowed down into the lawn. When I'm clearing snow with it, I typically do the entire block (all my...

    Screening Plant Project

Caper90, What sizes of steel did you use, and for what parts? It looks mostly like 2x2 HSS, but segments look a bit bigger (maybe 2x3 or 2x4). What about on the screen, did you use HSS or Angle Iron?
