Water in the hydraulics in my Siromer 204E remedy please.

I have a 1960 International 404 with serious water leaks. Gaskets/seals are no longer available or outrageously priced. An old farmer told me to drain system, disconnect all hoses to drip dry and fill with kerosene. My hydraulic pump has a whine in it with water present. I do this every two...

Anyone have a solution to eradicating moles ??

I’ve used milky spore on a customers 1 acre back yard in the country. Naturally kills all grubs, worms…. No food, they go to the neighbors. You could see a line around the yard where I stopped application. After about 8 years of no moles, they sold the house so I don’t know how long it lasts...

Anybody using a backhoe attachment on their CUT?

I have a 1960’s International 404 with a loader. I bought a Bush Hog BH with a NH subframe, modified the mounts to fit my tractor and built a 3 pt power pack. I dug a 32’ x 50’ foundation for my new house. Later I trenched and backfilled over 120’ of sewer and electric conduit from 36” to 54”...

    power tool recommendation

I’ve had 6-8 power washers over the last 17 years for working around lake houses. The first few I bought had 2 year warranties and pump fail just after that. Motors are fine but just as cheap to buy a complete unit as to replace the pump. Honda engines run 10 minutes longer per tank than B&S for...

    2022 L3302

I have a 1960 international 404 with loader and chloride filled rear tires. Recently bought a 1970’s bush hog backhoe with subframe. Made mounts on tractor for it and a pto power unit. I can pick up the tractor with the backhoe, the loader down, and still move it sideways. All at an idle. You...

converting a lightly used dirt road to gravel - how important is it to follow gravel road building best practices?

In SW Michigan, I built a 1/2 mile driveway around a corn field. Never removed any soil. Used pit run sand/gravel for a base and a few years later, topped with 2A processed gravel. As long as the road had crown to it, it lasted years without maintenance. Whenever I would plow snow, I removed a...

    Greetings and Salutations

Welcome from SW Michigan. My first tractor nearly 30 years ago was a 8n. Beats a shovel when fixing a half mile driveway or mowing with a 20” toro push mower. Still sitting in the tree row since I upgraded to a IH 404 with a loader. If you want nostalgia, I’d part with it.

backhoe attachment vs a separate machine

I have an old IH with a loader on a small farm with livestock. When a horse… dies, it’s a day off work and $100 for a friend to dig a hole and burry it. After 11 large animals dying, I finally found a used backhoe to adapt the subframe to my tractor. Now I can dig holes, trench water lines… at...

    Rear Blade Adjustment Preferences

I started 20 years ago with 16 acres of corn field and swamp. Then I added a 1/2 mile gravel driveway and built a house. After about 5 years, I gave up using my snow plow truck to work the driveway and bought a 8N. Soon followed a 7’ slider blade with bolt adjustment. Had to use 2 wrenches and...

    Driveway gravel

That’s why my driveway( almost a half mile) is processed road gravel. The little bit plowed off into the pasture doesn’t hurt the grass. I top coated it about 12 years ago and it’s just now getting to the point of needing it again.

Did I bust something on the loader hydraulics?

Adjust rear tire pressure to make bucket sit level. If you can’t see damage, just use it. Cheap fix.

    Eradicating moles

I’ve used milky spore with great success. You could see a line where it was applied and no mole runs. Don’t know how long it lasted but was simple to apply over a large yard.

Hot Tub vs. Concrete over Corrugated

If the hot tub must be on the porch, then a few hundred dollars for a concrete pad under each corner and a stack of blocks with HARDWOOD shims to hold floor up is cheaper than a structural engineer. Last engineer I used was $180/hour to rate a load bearing beam. 2 hour drive round trip from...

    bucket level indicator

I would keep it separate battery, mounting display on loader arms. When you take loader off, there would be no loose wires. I’m a glutton for electronics that make a job easier. Let’s see it when you’re finished. I’ll buy one.

    Cable chains for tractor tires?

I live in SW Michigan and I use H chains on my tractor(2wd). They cost about $350 about 10 years ago but very strong links. The H keeps them on top of the lugs. Not a noticeable difference in ride. I used to plow my 1/2 mile driveway with a S-10 pickup. I put the chains on the front so I had...

    Formal Training?

I was a city slicker when I grew up. I took a tractor safety course when I was a teenager (70’s) that was offered through the local 4-H. Most of the tractor driving was in reverse with a trailer which taught me more useful skills. Now I own a small farm and am looking for a NEW tractor to...
