Thank you. I build for a living, my job title is welder/blacksmith and i repair and rebuild heavy equipment through Boilermakers local 5, and also run a small welding and fabrication shop for my self that is geared towards race cars, motorcycles and farm equipment. All i do is fabricate and build.

I always found aluminum was way easier when i was younger, and still to this day to be honest. Its a faster process so to speak but not so micro fine as with the steels. I feel i have more time to think with aluminum then with such a real quick wet out with the ferrous metals. I handle both...

I try not to take a wire brush to aluminum anymore, unless its complete crud or something of that nature. I wipe it with acetone, crank up the amps to blast away the oxide layer and then back off a bit and get at it quick. Quick feed while watching everything going on and giddy up and go.

Just keep practicing on thin with your tig bud. Youll get it in due time. Just dont practice on a project. I had a job coming up doing some thin edge welds. And made sure i was preparred. 1/16. Always stay practiced. It goes a long way.

Oh definately! Once you contaminate your tungsten its a downward spiral from there, you'll wind up with having to weld through soot with arc wander and all sorts of mayhem going on. Clean clean clean is the name of the game when it comes to tig.

Deereman when it comes to metal being clean for tig welding this is what we mean. All mill scale removed and wiped down with acetone. Time consuming, but worth the time. I even wipe my filler down with acetone. You would br suprised how much black crud comes of of it.

Josh, just try to bump up your travel speed. It will come with practice. Sometimes to keep warpage down I will travel as fast as I can without pausing at all in between dips. This was a jig I built and it had to be 100% true, so no warpage. These passes were about 8" long and I welded them out...

MX5100, 84" loader, I made plates and welded the hooks to the plates, then bolted the plates down. Theyre mounted as close to the loader arms as I could get. I also had the same setup on my L4400. Ready for anything!

All machines have there little querks. My little maxstar HATES 6010 and will snuff out like blowing a match out all day long, but all in all a very awsome machine whenever I have to go super portable.

Ive used it before, usually on delicate stuff that was brazed together from the factory. Welds smooth, but will get sooty in a heartbeat with one wrong move. It also adds a nice finish to non structual ornamental type stuff! Heres a wheel chair job I used it on recently.

Take your hooks to a shop and have them welded to a plate, then bolt the plate on. It would be alot cheaper, and twice as strong. And an easy fix if you ever damage them.
